Hello gents, i took delivery of this a while back. Fresh out the box there was a vertical darkening on the back. It looked like more oiled or something. Like it was folded and then oils ran that way, heat, etc may have darkened. Not sure if that was before or after production or even shipping. I think the collar as well there is dark so after cutting? I just let it go and thought it would fade in time and become less noticeable. It has actually became more noticeable. I cannot see my back, lol but it still bothers me a little. I will attach a pic new out of box and now. I emailed aero yesterday with pics. Not really sure what they can or would do. I should have addressed with them right away, but I thought it would even out over time and become less noticeable. I was excited about the new jacket and wait time, shipping costs, thought nah. It would be great if I could trade in for credit or something. I doubt they would just remake Me a new jacket with the same specs. I am sure I could prove the time stamp on the images. Kind of just wondering if anyone has any thoughts, what they would do, expectations from aero. Has anyone else had an area like this on their jacket, this size and location. No need to say you would have sent back the new jacket or addressed right away. That is obvious and I do not yet have a time machine :) Thanks in advance.

I would recommend to contact them and to describe what happened just exactly the way you did here, asking them if they might possibly have n idea how to help you out here, maybe kind of reworking the jacket in a way.
If that should be possible I would not be too astonished if you could find an agreement how to share costs for the whole procedure, if you behave gentlemen like.

Cheers

Yes, I contacted them (holly direct as I had her email from a prior exchange) yesterday explained it just like this. Thanks for your feedback. If I do not hear back I will email the main line.

Tricky. Digitally taken pictures have time stamps, so it should be easy to prove the jacket was faulty around the time you received it. However seeing it from Aeros perspective, you decided to keep the jacket at the time and you clearly wore it, so the jacket lost value by utilization where as you took benefits from it, so a full return at this point is questionable.

Thanks @jacketjunkie. I wonder if I would have contacted them they would have said wear it and it will become less noticeable over time. They use that working some on their blue label jackets. Maybe that is more regarding grain and not color. Similar to langlitz telling me the sleeves will shorten 3 inches if I just keep wearing, lol. They did not Obviously and I sent back to alter.

No idea. I'd consider re-dying, or oiling the leather with the same formula that was used originally, and hope that it would even out, but there's no telling what the results will be like until you do it.

Well... The line would disappear with time but it'd take a while for it to happen. Looks just like the leather has aged quicker at that part, somehow, which is why it's becoming more and more prominent. You'd have to wait for the rest of the jacket to catch up and that could take years.

Stupid question but did you try cleaning the line off?

Thanks so far. I was thinking about trying a conditioner of sorts to darken it. I do not think I would dye it. I probably would not be able to sell it for what I would normally get
how does it look on?.. maybe less noticeable?
not sure i have a pic from the back worn. I am sure lighting plays a role. Will try to take a pic later

I have not tried cleaning it with any chemical. I wipe off my leathers time to time with a warm wet rag if soiled (bug guts from riding). It does not look like something that could be wiped or cleaned off to me.

When did you receive the jacket? Base on what I've seen recently an Aero CXL HYM brings $600 to $400 here and on eBay so to sell. Point is if you sell the jacket the max loss I see by the discoloration is $200. I notice my Aero CXL Brown HH has aged with color variation that I like, charter patina also with creases and graining, I do not think I would be thrilled with the dark streak but like you said you do not see it wearing the jacket so I would not be a brother like if it was on the front of the jacket and I saw it every time I looked down or in the mirror. My experience does not come up with anything that will make the dark area disappear or even fade.

I got it last summer. We shall see what aero says. Have not heard back has only been a couple days. I love me some grain and variation in color. A dark streak down the back center not so much. Might be pleasantly surprised by aeros response. And if im not I wont be too bummed. Either keep and enjoy or sell and lose a bunch of money like every other jacket i have bought new and sold lol.

from aero website:
“Any custom made to order item or garment with modifications can only be returned for exchange and then only if there is an error in the specification, a fault in materials or make up or doesn't meet clients measurement specifications within the accepted tolerances.”

assuming the above applies to something brought up right away. Or a busted up zipper or busted seam with normal use.

Only solution I can come up with is darken the rest of the jacket to match the the stained streak. Otherwise don't darken over the stain. Try some conditioners or oils hopefully to find a close match. I wouldn't wear it like that even if I couldn't see the back while wearing it. Others can easily notice the disfigured leather back because it does stand out. Even a more mottled effect would look much better than an off color streak.

Thanks for the recommendation. Definitely something to think about. Might be a fun project.

I heard back from holly. I did request extra grainy on the order. The line I guess is from the horse mane. And they selected this and placed it in that center area on purpose. She did offer a trade in credit. I will have to think about it. Kind of interesting the mane part. I will know maybe that is enough. Anyone looking will not know. Resale it would help to know at least what it is. Any thoughts?
