Another jaw-dropper found in the Wall Street Journal weekend magazine last week. If you happen to be near a Dior store...

The interesting thing about this thread is that some of the hats we love in these parts were equally outlandish when first debuted.... the first man to wear a top hat in England was arrested for inciting a riot.... simply by wearing the hat in public.

"The Fez is the ancient and modern national headdress of the Moabites / Moors. The Fez is a brimless headdress — most commonly produced in scarlet red with an ebony / black tassel. ... The Fez is worn as a symbol of the womb. The top of it has a nipple shape that symbolizes the navel."

OK.

I'd be interested in hearing the rest of that story. I'm certain the PD was taken to the cleaners over that one. I'd be curious to hear what the constable/judge had to say to the Gomers who brought in a guy over a hat. I'd put good money that it wasn't the hat wearer who incited that riot.

There wasn't anything along the lines of the modern police force in England in 1797 - just a locally organised watchmen and constables arrangement. The first professional police force in Britain was the City of Glasgow police force, established by statute in 1800; Peel's men in London came some years later. Back in 1797 (and for quite some time to come thereafter) the justice system was a lot more brutal than it later became; what we would now consider a miscarriage of justice would have been almost par for the course in 1797.

My life long friend from high school had a face lift last year...her naval is close to being on her head now...LOL! She was also attempting me to be recruited for a face lift, I said hell no. LOL Maybe I should buy her a Fez? LOL!

Looks like you just sent up the @Joao Encarnado signal. Hopefully that will bring him back to the Lounge.

Hello!
Ocasionally I step in and read some threads as my gaming is slowing down again.
Not much to do on Red Dead Redemption II and other videogames I play currently.
I would prefer that hat to have a bigger crown :)
I have one with the same look (wide brim, very low crown)
