Even though the store I was dealing with is kind of known for it's customer service, I had my doubts about this working at all. To make matters worse, I'd actually cut the tags (size, care, etc.) out of the jacket I was returning, but the salesperson didn't even take it out of the bag I used to...
I've owned a custom Aero Highwayman in FQHH for the past 10 years, and while I like it, I don't spend much time actually wearing it. I don't ride, and don't really have any need for heavy bullet-proof leather, but when I ordered it, I thought I wanted something really heavy and substantial. The...
Not being very familiar with lambskin, this is why I'm asking about it. I want something lightweight and soft, so it seems like lambskin might be a likely candidate. I've found almost no reviews about any Overland products, so if there are alternatives you'd suggest I'm all ears. Being made in...
Hello Loungers,
I'm in the market for another black leather jacket. I already have an Aero Highwayman in heavy FQHH, and for some time I've been wanting a lighter, softer alternative to the stout horsehide. Overland makes a lambskin jacket called the "Dawson" that looks pretty nice...
As SWMBO was doing some shopping downtown this afternoon, I wandered around with my daughter and stumbled onto a shop that's only been open in Portland for 7 months: Self Edge. They carry a wide range of cool Japanese-style denim jeans, leather accessories, and, what caught my eye as I got near...
Congrats on the new line! It must represent a LOT of work and time spent designing. 16 at once, wow! I'm glad to see there are new versions of the notorious side adjustment straps. Personally, I'm drawn a bit towards the Northeaster, as I already have a shorter jacket (HWM), but all of the new...
To be fair, I've emailed Holly about the side straps and a couple other minor issues, and she's suggested that I send it back to Scotland to see what they can do. There was no mention of who would pay for shipping, however, and there hasn't been a good time yet for me to try to mail it back...
Here's the side strap on my HWM, after being "tacked" in place. Otherwise, the straps would not stay fastened regardless of how tight or loose I adjusted them.
Thanks guys. The leather is in pretty good shape, except for some dried/discolored areas under the sleeves. The jacket has sat in a storage unit in LA since the 90s. I'm a little disappointed that it's not worth a bit more, so I'll probably just condition the leather and not do anything with the...
The straps on my Highwayman are also a problem. They wouldn't stay put no matter what, and are so short that there's hardly any adjustment possible, even if they did stay closed. I had my wife sew the straps into place, which makes the entire side adjustment area useless, and in hindsight I wish...
Greetings all,
My wife recently drug out an old jacket she used to wear in high school (still fits!), and it's an "Excelled" brand jacket that needs a little TLC but seems pretty decent. She bought it for around $100 about 15 years ago, and I might work on the leather a little bit and see if...
Reviving my own thread here, but I'm still wondering about hide options and thought I'd pose a more specific question:
What is the softest hide that leather jackets can be made of and still handle getting rained on?
I'm also interested in something other than FQHH, since I already have a jacket made with that, and since the qualities of FQHH to my mind include the descriptors "tough, thick and heavy," I'm looking for something more on the "soft and luxurious" end of the scale, although whatever I end up...
Great jackets, thanks for posting! The Herc really does look amazing, that brown Chromexcel is really something. As much as I've been on the fence about the hide choice for my next jacket, the Aero brown HH nearly has me re-reconsidering, it's just gorgeous! I don't know if it's the lighting or...
Thats interesting. . . here in the US, fasteners like zippers and buttons are put on coats and shirts depending on the "gender" of the garment. So if for you guys American zips are on the opposite side than you're accustomed to, then maybe you've got women's zippers?
I have the bi swing back on my Highwayman and I've always been a little unsure of the whole arrangement. I do have good freedom of movement, but it seems like the pleats are always extended in the shoulders, and there is a bit of a bat wing effect under the arms, where the sides cinch together.
I was in Seattle last week and even drove past the store, but it was President's Day (I think?) and everything looked very closed. I was hoping to check out a couple of the longer-length Aero's, maybe next time. . .
