Another media piece with ideas about hats and why we wear them: http://www.npr.org/sections/npr-history-dept/2015/07/17/419859315/what-hats-tell-us-about-american-men
I just noticed this on the Stetson web site and didn't see it posted here.

Oh well, whatever helps them sell open crown hats. It does make a nice image for sure.
When I was a kid long ago my family had a sow I made a pet of. Used to ride it like a pony. Pigs are very intelligent and do show affection. I ended up eating that pig. If you grow up on a farm you learn the hard way to not make pets of livestock!
I wonder if these high paid BIN sales are that way because of the assumption at auction they would go higher so some buyers accept that is the only way they can get something--seems hard to imagine that in this case though. Sometimes just too hard to believe some things are worth as much as...
For all of you who just gots to have one of those "creations" the LA Times is reporting it is a Vivienne Westwood "Mountain" hat.
now comes word that we have designer Vivienne Westwood to thank for the millinery meme. Monday morning, representatives for the label emailed us to share that...
Crazy high asking price...I'm wondering how it got from the buyer of that auction to the current seller as the original seller, buyer and current seller are all different people. Unless the current seller used a different account as that buyer...or there is a missing transaction.
Now if...
Thanks for the reminder. Last week I posted this. Interestingly if one tries to go from the schedule link from their web page it doesn't go to this info but the link to the subject from the highlights page does. Whomever maintains their web-code messed up.
Heads up! I just discovered that on TCM tonight they are showing American Treasures from the New Zealand Film Archive Part one and then in one week part 2 (24 of November, 2013). So hopefully one of these nights we will get to see the Stetson movie. The TCM broadcast info doesn't indicate...
Jeff,
Any idea on additional colors being offered for these in the future? And if yes, what those might be? Various types of grays I assume which is good and perhaps a more traditional Silver Belly are possible. I realize it may not be practical or possible for Hatco to go beyond that but...
You might also want to consider using a hat jack or stretcher adjusted to your head size (use a hat that fits to adjust it) and use that in the hat your are trying to shrink down. May help with tracking and adjusting the fit.
On the Preservation web site I found this: http://www.filmpreservation.org/userfiles/image/PDFs/BirthOfAHat_Getman.pdf
It looks like the new film may include some of the same footage that is in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_lZnPn0C0k.
Maybe whomever sees the new video first can compare the...
Or in other words all these ads from the "high-end" retailers probably prove is that many (most?) consumers who can afford to pay these "high-end" prices are much more ignorant of what they are buying and how to judge quality than most of us here or for that matter their forefathers were.
As...
I think you are spot on. Factory operations tend to focus on volume to keep a large operation going, but with ever increasing costs to run a business (labor, materials, etc) and to avoid raising prices too high such that most customers are priced out something has to give and using inferior...
Some of the online western dealers had stopped carrying their products over the past few years before they went out because of big price increases and in at least some offerings a reduction in quality.
