As far as I know he's still heading it up. I was there over a year ago. The company is very accessible to anyone wanting to visit or purchase stuff. (Boston, near the airport) They do a lot more than peacoats now, but all military, i.e., shipboard jackets, gen 3 thermal suits, etc. It has been a...
FYI everybody,
VI-MIL stands for Viking military. Viking also made general apparel.
In about 1968 they changed their name to... Sterlingwear!
Of course, they made kersey coats. The president of the
company, Frank Fredella, showed me the 1970 Vi-Mil kersey he wears.
I believe he is in his early...
Anyone who knows the coats can tell a real one regardless of the tag(s).
There's supposed to be one at the neck too of you want to get technical
but it was very fragile and not present in the vast majority of WW2 coats.
The reproductions I have investigated are easily distinguishable from the...
Lost Worlds will do a custom order, especially since it's not a whole lot different than their stock B-3.
Cost could be up there but it will be first rate. Try on a stock version first.
JZ-
I think you'll find them even better in days to come. The leather is called retan leather and it's extremely durable.
You can either treat it with the usual oils or waxes for "outdoor" activities or polish them up with Kiwi et al for "dress."
When the finish gets dried out, faded or...
Hi again,
To answer your immediate question, the Vulcork sole does not help date the boot because it was always offered as a standard alternate to a Neoprene sole. The really good news is that you do not have the model built after the original Foot-so-Port factory burned down- your boot is the...
I know a lot about them- visited factory in Oconmowoc, Wisconsin and wear what's left of boots I bought over 25 years ago.
They are the BEST. Absolutely nothing compars with their lasts, fit and anatomical technology. Were available in many styles, all sizes and widths from AAAA to Z. The...
How about these babies! You can get them in any width, any leather, any accessory. The quality is peerless

Nick,
Tailor or seamstress- get a good one. Penetrating the lining correctly is routine for them.
If you have no confidence in anyone, I can recommend one near Syracuse NY who was
great with my peacoat and fair in price. She was recommended to me by experts I researched
online. The serious...
There's an NOS deadstock one of these listed on a certain popular auction site right now.
(point of info only- zero connection to person or thing at auction)
Jan,
If you want to see an "original" check out the Russell Safari and its permutations.
In fact, look over the whole site. Don't overlook the little "optional sole" button to find your white soles (and others).

I think we need a little more research before identifying -01 as the manufacturing date of this coat.
This 13 number code is called the National Stock Number and the -01 code identifies the country of origin
as the United States. The NSN was instituted about 1974 and was...
BR's peacoat is a crock and a sham. I've tried on and looked over two or three coats and they don't measure up to the real thing.
With first hand experience comparing my 1944 peacoat, I wouldn't trust B/R on anything until you touch the goods yourself
regardless of their rep.
the first one with the DSA-1 looks to be a 1965 fiscal year
the second one is only showing a National stock number which would range from 1975 to the present
Here's one possibility: Scroll down about halfway in the "Sale" tab of lostworldsinc.com and find a 3/4 length safari jacket tagged at 50 but cut full to the point that it should fit a 52 (sic) or maybe a hungry 54. It's a smart look and the only question might be about its degree of water...
I agree with the advice to have your coat dry cleaned right away. In every case my coat came back in better condition than when it went in.
One suggestion: explain to the shop that the coat is a vintage piece and could they give it extra care handling. My generous store offered to clean it all...
excellent source of leather products
Is anyone familiar with Dyo (Chemical Company) products? I have been using the creamy white leather balm for years ever since it was the only product recommended by Gokey for their Botte Sauvage boots- that's the real, old Gokey, not the Orvis neo-Gokey. The...
