1930's Fabric Weight for Modern Suits

Yes, please DO post pics when you have the chance Deckard. As it happens I'm in the market for a vested navy suit (or three!). Can I assume that Deckard and Co. will accommodate requests for a higher gorge in the vest?

1930's Fabric Weight for Modern Suits

There's no information on fabric weight, or am I missing something? Just to be clear, I'm not looking for a suit that looks vintage, I want a heavier weight fabric. Thanks

1930's Fabric Weight for Modern Suits

Hello All, I was curious if anyone knows about a current suit manufacturer that makes suits with the weight of old, 1930's era fabrics. As I'm sure most of you already know, fabric in that area was loomed differently so the fabric weight was heavier and more durable. I love the suits...

Essential Books every Gentleman Should Have?

I love the handy size of the Everyman's Library, and these editions include almost everthing worth reading. If I think I'll hold on to a copy of a certain book then I try and find it in an EL edition. They're also small enough for lugging around to work or the plane.

    Black Suit

Back before WWII black suits were known as "Sunday suits" and available through the JCPenny catalog. It's only been recently (the last 50 years) that they went out of style. Before that they were the most common color available, a suit for "everyman".

    Snot Rags?

Bilbo Baggins considered them essential tools, so if it's good for a Baggins it's good enough for me! J.Press used to offer nice, dark colored, tartan patterned hankies in packages of six. I'm glad I stocked up. The dark colors were perfect, but alas they've gone to white and white patterns...

Are film noire motion pictures in color an oxymoron?

I'd have to say no, black and white is not needed. One of my favorite noir films is Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis, another is Blade Runner. Both were shot in color, and both conveyed the mood and sensibilities of noir perfectly. I highly recommend "It's a Bitter Little World" by Charles...

    Upcoming Dillinger movie

Yeah, and Michael Mann directing gives me hope as well. I really enjoy his work. Looks like it's coming in July. Looks like we need to buy a magazine: Mann is a "gunny" director, so I'm looking forward to the period weapons and realistic firepower in addition to the costumes and sets.

    Must Have "Period" Adventure Movies??

+1 for Mountains of the Moon. I own it and need to rewatch it, as it's been a few years now.

Think you're man enough to handle a BarnStormer flyboy...? No wimps allowed!!

Love the coat 1911 (and your moniker). 1. Is the coat their standard brown, or the "vintage" brown? 2. Did you order your usual jacket size or one size up for layering? 3. Does it fit true to size? Also, may I ask when all was said and done, what was the total cost and wait time from...

    The Money Clip

I stopped using my ATM card for purchases, simply because it was too easy to overspend. Now I carry cash money exclusively. If you wanna be REALLY old school, go to the grocery store and get one of those heavy rubber bands that come with lettuce or other produce, and use that for keeping...

    Bootlegging Movie?

Does anyone know of a movie (or movies), about old school bootlegging during Prohibition? Thanks

Why is the Bum Look Popular? (formally the unemployed look)

I agree. Tim is trying too hard to look disheveled (those are PJ bottoms he's wearing, are they not?) and just comes across as pretentious as hell. Ditto for his wife. I gave up all hope for Americans years ago when I started seeing grown-ups, not just teenagers, wearing pajamas and slippers to...

Double Shoulder Holster from Last Man Standing (SOLD)

If you look closely you'll see it has notches in the harness for adjustment. I'm a big guy myself at 6' 215lbs with a long torso, so I can say with confidence it will work with just about anyone. I also have extra material if you need it. Thanks for the interest.
