I'm holding off from the leaked footage, but inhaling every trailer that comes my way! I'm trying not to get too wound up until I see the film (though as noted unlike many I wasn't disappointed with Skull), but I've honestly seen nothing yet that suggests it could be as bad as a lot of people...
I'm hopeful. Admittedly, I liked Crystal Skull. Sure, it's not perfect, but many of the criticisms levied at it don't stand up if the critic is also going to laud the original films by comparison. For me, it's on a par with Temple. I've always called Temple the weakest of the original three...
Caught that one a few years ago - it was very good indeed, should appeal to anyone who enjoyed the likes of Hornblower. It did indeed have the feel of something designed for a series that never happened. According to Wikipedia it "barely recouped" its budget - "only" something like USD212...
Thanks for posting that! :) That scene has stuck in my memory for thirty five odd years, but until I stumbled over this thread today I'd no idea what film it was in, so didn't even know what to go searching for. Nice to see it again after all these decades. :)
Years later I know, but..... I remember seeing the very scene - I think it was indeed Murphy's Romance. I saw the film on television years back, in the mid eighties when we still only had the four channels in the UK, and so you often ended up watching something you wouldn't otherwise have...
This is the Olney, must be around 2010 I think in these shots. Not got any more recent photos, alas, but it still gets worn:
Those are probably all Olney boaters in these photos. To the best of my understanding, Olney made all boaters sold in the UK under various labels for years. Mostly...
Boaters have been on my mind a lot recently with the closure of Olney, the last English/UK company still making them. No idea where my next new one will come from, though somebody will doubtless at least be importing them, given that I can't imagine the likes of Eton changing their uniform over...
I really like this one. Personally I'd be wanting a darker shearling for practicality's sake, but this does look great. Not being teacore would be a big bonus for me: if you want black leather, buy a black jacket; if you want it to go brown, why not buy a brown one to begin with?
Isn't that what they call an "all-nighter" after forty? :D
Oddly, I'd been doing that for a long time; since I lost a significant amount of weight, I've been sleeping right through more often than not. Maybe it was also the cat, God rest her soul - she knew exactly where to stand to hit my...
It does still hold up as fun.... though I actually came to prefer the newer version with Momoa. Different animals, I think... Arnie's has a period, kitsch sensibility to it, whereas Moma's feels truer to the source material to me. Not unlike the two versions of JUdge Dredd..... the difference...
By end June, I'd die in an Indy jacket..... otherwise I'd certainly wear it out. But then once you've been on the tube in full Frank'n'Furter drag, anything else is a dawdle.
I've been avoiding the detail of the reviews here. The general vibe of the UK reviews is the predictable negative snark, which reveals nothing other than reconfirming the the critics here wanted to hate it going in. I think I'll wait beyond that until I see it for myself.
This Dainite style of sole is a definite favourite of mine. I do buy a lot of leather-soled shoes, and typically quite quickly have a thin, rubber layer glued over the front sole in order to prevent excess wear in part, though mostly as it helps somewhat if it is particularly wet underfoot. I...
Ah, the dear old NSC - are you a fellow member? Did you hear it looks like we're losing our meeting spot? Camden Council have approved plans to turn the first and second floors of the Wheatsheaf into "luxury flats". Sadly, I suspect that also spells inevitable doom for the pub on the ground...
I suspect the change in the coinage may have had something to do with this. When the 10p / 5p coins were still the same size as the old two shilling / one shilling coins, I remember there being a lot of the old coins with Georgie 6 still on them in wide circulation, recognised as 5ps and 10ps...
The HWM has been Aero's top seller by far for several decades now. The Windward never seems to have been quite as popular as many of the other models - the vagaries of fashion. Used to be a poster in these parts had several of them, went by @Windward . Look up his posts, you'll see some nice...
Reminds me of that FBI obscenity investigation into Louie Louie, a song considered potentially dangerously subversive. Two years they spent on that, before simply concluding it was essentially gibberish. Nice work if you can get it.
Always worth asking Aero. Sometimes they will respond positively to a polite request if they feel the modification involved is suitable and something that they would be comfortable having their name on. Do note, though, that anything that involves redrafting a pattern is a no-no, as that's...
Keep an eye on the site; there'll definitely be another Flaneur next year. Fingers crossed, there might well even be a return to the Olympiad next year as well....
