I've picked up a fabulous as new 50's WAIKIKI SPORTS cotton aloha shirt that is just that bit too big for me, I've seen these going for $200. The size is old XL.
Any collectors out there with something interesting to swap for it, I take an L old size.
Pics will be put up if any interest shown.
I'm in the process of restoring a Kamehameha I just got, and need to source some bamboo buttons, ( those in the know will know) as the pressed metal ones that are on it now, although fine, don't match the loop button. Anybody out there up for some swaps or whatever?
I'll spare you all a photo of these being worn, but what a score, they fit perfectly, I've never seen a pair come up on ebay since it started, and never found any at markets or whatever in over 20 years! This is the real deal for acceptable vintage beachwear in my book...
Here's me in my Whippet, acquired in a swap with my good buddy Hollis (M JONES), for the large size Stetsons I found on my recent outback sojourn. The other hat is a cracker as well, but I haven't yet got a photo of the right outfit for it yet. Now I know why I always got cast as a cop when I...
I'm now convinced the ghost of RM Williams himself walks beside me, yesterday I picked up my third pair of RMW Craftsman boots, exactly my size and freshly soled and heeled, for $6, making it a hat trick in the last 6 months or so for a total cost of less than $A40. They'll see me out I think....
I went for a drive in the country last week, look what I found, 8 of them are in fine condition, mint in fact including the fabulous blue Akubra Renmark with cavanagh edge. Most fit me but not unfortunately the exquisite straw Stetson Bermuda. In the restoration stakes here is an Open Road as...
Got this on the bay for about US$30 post inc....going by the label it's pretty old and is of course my favourite label OREGON, a bit of stitching required but I've seen them in worse condition in the shops for $2-300. A nice detail is the belted waist at the back..never saw it before in a...
Attention all in the Old Dart, I just picked up a 3/4 coat in drill made in England by DHOBI, yet can't track anything down about them on the net, are they of any vintage cred?
OK
I got this today, . it has the BIG E label on the pocket, but the inner label on the yoke is gone. It has no fruitpockets and the denim seems fairly stiff and there is some wear on the insides of the "buttons' that make me think it might be the real thing, it could of course be of recent...
A question for UK loungers: what are the name brands of vintage fedoras over there? All we seem to hear about these days is Dobbs Mallory etc, even over here I only ever see Akubra or local Stetsons, never british hats which one would have thought very common in this part of the world...maybe...
Look I can't help myself, but without giving a link, if you want a good chuckle go to the WKAH and search for "A1 pearl harbor nose art"..some people will try anything.
Just for amusement I put these three Stetsons in a row in order of brim width.
From R-L a Hampton, San Juan, and Open Road, they are all Australian Stetsons though, and probably made by Akubra, but the felt is definitely softer than your usual Akubra
I see lots of tips here about stretching hats to larger sizes, what about the reverse?
The Bogart I just scored (you can see in the other thread) is just too big even with foam inside the lining; it just don't sit right.
I'm going to just wet it and put it in the sun for want of a better...
I don't know about the US but here it's a tradition that shops that sell hats boots and other "western" menswear in country towns have the walls covered in the incredibly holy and beatup lids that have been traded in upon purchase of a new one. My local shop has what looks like a quite nice grey...
I found this quote while browsing:
It may take courage or an eccentric spirit to wear a dress hat in many parts of the country, but not in Detroit, the home of the blues. It's an excellent place for hat lovers, with dozens of places to buy them and enough men wearing felt hats to raise the...
Found this Stetson Highway, (not open road as I said in previous thread), very fine condition size 55 so too small for me, anyone interested in a swap for something 57, or sale whatever. One small pinhole in band is only fault otherwise nice hat no mothholes. Would rebash quite nicely.
Got this for $A8 the other day, a Stetson San Juan, the interior was mouldy and the bash..well you can see,
A bit of time in the shower with a shoebrush and some soap, and Voila!
I also picked up an Open Road size 55 with a weird bash but excellent condition while I was at it. Too small...
