    Goatee anyone?

I'm going to grow a goatee again. Here is a sharp looking one for inspiration: From an Ingmar Bergman film called 'Thirst' (1949).

    Show us their suits

I love the transitional stuff, where you can see a bit of 1950s casual seeping into the 1940s style. Great plaid shirt and zipped shirt.

Selvedge denim: what are your recommendations?

FFF, have you tried this website? http://www.shopstyle.co.uk/?shipping=* It is a directory of almost all high street stuff in the UK, obviously not specifically vintage, but occasionally you find interesting stuff on sale.

    Alexander Leathers

Be grateful that the comment was vaguely relevant! I've met young people in the UK who don't know what a Spitfire is.

    Geronimo Brand 1940's Chinos

I think 'stylistic, modern interpretation of the 50s' is a more civilised way of putting it. I did not intend my original statement as derogatory. On a separate note, I definitely think a vintage suit is worth paying good money for if it is what someone has been looking for, and there isn't much...

    1920s suits

Yes. Increasingly I find that formality wasn't necessarily imposed, but rather just a personal choice for many people. You find plenty of 'sloppy' dressers from the 1920s-1940s.

    Geronimo Brand 1940's Chinos

Yes, sure, I did not mean the 'bogus' in a derogatory way by the way, just not to my personal taste perhaps.

    On synthetic blends

Yes, I believe wool generally looks after itself, something I learned on the fedora lounge.

    Geronimo Brand 1940's Chinos

Well from my limited experience many rockabillies are more about bogus haircuts and tattoos than being faithful to 1950s clothing.

    On synthetic blends

Agreed. Acrylic jumpers just look ugly after a couple of washes, they really are futuristic dystopian clothing. :D

    On synthetic blends

Like many here, I generally avoid clothing with synthetic fibres, unless it is a small percentage in a blend. But I don't want all my clothing decisions to be dictated purely by nostalgia. I recently picked up a pair of herringbone trousers at the charity shop, 50% cotton 25% viscose, 25%...

    Geronimo Brand 1940's Chinos

Are they low rise, or is the guy just wearing them low? There seems to be a lot of crotch material there. But I guess emailing them can soon clear things up.

    Vintage Polo Shirts

Interesting, there are also some reasonably accurate period predictions about the increasing popularity of casual clothes in the future, in the 1926 issue of vanity fair you posted: http://www.vanityfair.com/100-years-of-vanity-fair/october-1926-full-issue#page/106 Page 96

Darcy's or Old Town Clothing? What are your experiences?

Old Town has put up a gallery, something of a lookbook to showcase their items. I think it is very well done, have a look: http://www.old-town.co.uk/galleries.htm

    Show us their suits

Uh oh, bottom two buttons buttoned? This suit is the star in my opinion. Donegal tweed, with no excesses in shoulders or lapels, just tastefully done.

    Show us their suits

A bunch of stuff from a couple of Jean Renoir films, Toni and La bete humaine (which I found a bit too melodramatic)

    Your Favorite Paintings

You all have good taste, I like most of the paintings in this thread. HBK, it's funny, the artist is contemporary but his work looks like good old fashioned surrealism. Personally I enjoy a bit of Giger. Here are some of my favourites: Mystery and Melancholy of a street, Giorgio de Chirico...
