The new oil-pull doesn't suede at all. It appears to be a whole new type of leather which is closer in appearance to Front Quarter Horsehide but a little softer and slightly lighter in weight. No doubt that this leather will outlast you!
Make sure that all other components are chosen for being...
If it fits you won't be disappointed! A friend of mine recently acquired a WWWII peacoat from VT. It was in perfect condition. No moth bites, all buttons firm and strong, throat latch in place...it basically looked like it had just been made, except for the label which was beautifully faded...
Hello and welcome!
I've just had a look at the pictures. Your peacoat looks very much like a mil spec peacoat but it appears to be shorter and it doesn't have the back vent. The cloth is melton which has already lost a lot of its nap in certain places. The buttons look original and the top...
N'abend,
You should clarify what fit you prefer. Going by your measurements I would say that you prefer the fit of your other jackets to be quite generous (if not oversized). Do you have a picture of yourself wearing a 3XL jacket you could post? That would surely help!
If you prefer your...
Hello everybody,
I am planning on buying another peacoat to contribute my '68 Dale vintage Kersey one. I know that vintage peacoats are ususally made of higher quality materials (Kersey vs. Melton) but I fancy the idea of having an affordable mil spec melton peacoat as a "grab and go" jacket.
I...
The surface texture shows a lot of grain variation. Seal jerky hh looks quite similar to goatskin whereas Aero's smooth hh has a very even aniline finish which almost looks like plastic to me. Check out:

That's a no. The hides aren't big enough and it seems that Aero want to reserve their goatskins for their military jackets. Seal jerky HH would be an excellent alternative in my opinion. It's lighter in weight but not much thinner or weaker than FQHH.
Edward's idea is excellent: You could order...
A good quality peacoat (Sterlingwear is highly recommended for recent ones) will be as warm as a medium weight down jacket. I wore my vintage '68 Dale all through winter. You will probably remember that we had a lot of snow around christmas and it was well cold. I couldn't have felt warmer...
Great jacket and superb fit. In fact the fit couldn't be better! The jacket is slender and trim fitting but also quite long which is something I really like. Many high quality repros are too short for my taste with too much leather "dangling " around the waist. But BR never fail to amaze in...
There have been a handful of women's jackets in the past but Aero don't have real templates for them. All I can say is that sometimes they get it right, sometimes not and the jacket is out of proportion with much too wide sleeves. It's a good thing to start off with medium weight hide instead of...
Well, RWs come in different widths in the US. In Germany they are usually available in D or E only. You should have plenty of choice over there....
Try White's, Wesco and Thorogood
Huh, that's strange! Maybe Will made some samples for them which they ultimately didn't like. But I remember very well that we talked about his involvement regarding jackets for this film. So he must have stopped taking part in this project.
Anyway, the trailer looks quite promising. I just hope...
Standard Aero Scotland price plus 35 (or 50...can't remember) Pounds for the leather hem. It think the double leather cuffs were a little extra.
Apart from that there's nothing really special about this jacket (apart from that it's perfect and I love it). The corduroy pockets were included and...
Due to its complicated weave and sateen finish Gabardine is an expensive cloth. It was never meant to be a lining material but was used to make the Aero B10. Now that Aero has discontinued to make military cloth jackets they may also have run out of Gabardine.
However there may be several...
Aero for sure! Will told me about it a long while ago. It's amazing how long that film really took to be completed. I think the jackets were made at least two or two and a half years ago...
EDIT: Apparantly Goodwear also made jackets for the film!
The jacket looks very much like any cheap fashion jacket you can buy at European department stores. At 179 Dollars you should expect at least a minimum amount of quality.
The leather panels are not ridiculously small and there are not parting seams on the sleeves which is good.
Apart from that...
Here's my 30s goat HB jacket from the Aero page. The picture was taken without flash and the colour is very close.

Close up. As pointed out before the finish is quite mottled showing various shades of brown:
