I had an Eastman m-422a (about 8 years ago) as well as a LW G-1. Sold the Eastman but still have the LW.
The Eastman was nice but on my particular jacket the goatskin was very stiff and took forever to break in and get comfortable in it. Also the mouton fur on the collar was very curly and tight...
AE-21 was USS SURIBACHI, an ammo ship in service from 1956-1994.
I really like that you can sometimes track the history of a deck jacket thru the date of manufacture on the label and the stenciling on the back of the jacket.
Buzz Rickson A-2 deck jacket. Great quality and fit!
Ordered this off Amazon from
Rodeo-Japan. Jacket was delivered in 4 days from Japan, no extra import or customs charges.
I added the “U.S. Navy” tape over the chest pocket.
I’m thinking the black color in some small way relates to being a “black shoe” (surface warfare officer) as opposed to the “brown shoe” aviation community.
And a very common outerwear garment worn with khakis has been the black cotton “Eisenhower” jacket. So perhaps the Uniform Board figured...

This is pretty interesting news! Looks like a black leather G-1 without the fur collar.
I wonder what @Deacon211 and @Peacoat and others think?
I’m 6’ 1” with wide shoulders and long arms; I also love to have at least 2 inside pockets so custom was the way to go. Both my US A G-8’s fit like a glove and are well worth the cost. Impeccable workmanship and super fast delivery for a custom made jacket (arrived 2 days after I placed the order!).
I have 2 US Authentic G-8 jackets, one in seal brown goatskin and one in russet Horsehide. Both have been custom ordered with extra length, and an additional inside pocket. I’ve seen the Cockpit version in person and their goatskin feels more lightweight than the US A version, plus they do not...
For sale is this Eastman .50 Cal A-2 in size 46 Long. Jacket is about 5 years old but hasn’t gotten much wear (clean lining around the neck/collar area). Horsehide is a nice medium seal brown that’s mid-lightweight and picks up marks/patina/wear in short order, making this look very weathered...
“Mister Roberts” is also one of my favorite Navy movies. It is both funny and tragic, and brilliantly captures life aboard a Navy cargo ship. It brought back many fond (and afew not so fond) memories of my years aboard Navy cargo ships.
The author of the original book, Thomas Heggen, served...
As a late Christmas present to myself, I just ordered a Buzz Rickson A-2 deck jacket (found one in a rare XXL).
Finding an original in size XL/48 has been near impossible so I treated myself to a BR repro. Looking forward to going with more textile jackets and not my usual leather G-1.
James Dean in a WWII N-1 Navy deck jacket. Earlier I posted this to the “Famous people in flight jackets” thread (tho it’s definitely not a flight jacket).
