What we've lost since the Golden Era

The dressed up gentlemen and ladies. Men were always dressed in suits at the ballgame and out for an evening regardless. Rarely was there a family gettogether where men and woman weren't dress up with the exception of family picnics and outings at the lake, state parks or national parks...

First time suit buyer, need advice...

SHOES - I recently purchased a beautiful mint pair of cordovan wing tips on ebay for $15.00. These would have cost in excess of $100 retail. They truly were MINT and fit great. VESTS/WAISTCOATS - I have picked up several absolutely vintage vests in just about mint condition on ebay as...

    Modified Military Bag

I would add that many soldiers were found to be carrying German booty such as watches, guns, medals, flags and other personal items taken from dead soldiers. For American soldiers, It got so bad that soldiers were threatened with prosecution etc. if caught.

    The Adventurer's Gear Thread

Nice shot. A good indication of the common use of breeches and lace-up work boots by men during that period. Practically everyone wore them in the outdoors. Somewhere, I have photos of my dad on motorcycle during the 30s in the same gear. Thanks for sharing.

    1930s Cavalry- Mechanized and Horse

Craig, you may want to do a google search for M1930 full laceup boots or look around for a pair of officer's russett brown 3 buckle boots. I might suggest What Price Glory or Motor Cowboy for starters. If you are looking to replicate the boots of the 30s and 40s, I would go with russet...

    Pocket Watch Question

Shangas, I fully agree that we are gradually losing our traditions, both family and otherwise. Thanks to the Lounge and other traditional fashion sites that allow us to refocus on the fashions of the 20s, 30s and 40s. For me, Sunday is church and dress up day. I always wear a suit or...

How to take good care of a flying helmet

Just a thought, since I work with older leather all the time. Do not use Neatsfoot oil on older leather. Older thread will deteriorate. Good luck.

    Vintage Riding & Equestrian Apparel

I had researched this site in the past and have a few observations. As you may know, there is a substantial difference between the Jodhpurs that Monarch sells and breeches. If you don't mind the longer length with the cuffs, then Jodhpurs would be ok. The only problem is that they are not...
