    What's for Dinner?

Fried green tomatoes tonight. Not yet sure what we're having with.

Ok, so some things in the golden era were not too cool...

I never understood how the Mason-Dixon line came to represent the line between North and South. It runs between Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware for God's sake.

Leather jacket length and untucked shirts..

Some shirts such as button-downs, flannels, and other collared casuals with tails can, IMHO, sometimes be worn untucked with jeans, chinos (khakis), or shorts, but never with a jacket. Hawaiian shirts, Mexican wedding shirts, bowling shirts, and other button-fronts with a straight bottom hem...

Ok, so some things in the golden era were not too cool...

I'd say the 13 states of the Confederacy pretty much defines the South to this day. The "heart" of the South would be Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, Louisiana, and both the Carolinas.

    What's for Dinner?

Sounds simple but delicious. Every time I hear the words "three bean salad" it reminds me of an argument I once had with an employee at a Taco Bell drive-through. I was trying to order three bean burritos and he kept telling me they didn't make three-bean burritos.

    What's for Dinner?

Tonight at Crunk Manor was a bounty from the garden. The neighbor's garden, that is. One thing about the South, neighbors love to share their home-grown vegetables. Last night it was squash and zucchini, battered and fried in fresh bacon grease. Tonight was fried zucchini fritters, and...

    Unappreciated masterpieces?

Unfortunately I no longer get TCM. I did away with my $150 per month dish/cable bill some time ago and now watch all my "television" via a Roku streaming player. Not as many first-run shows but for a total bill of $16 per month for the two premiums I subscribe to (Netflix and Hulu Plus), plus...

To PR or to Costume- that is the question

If you have an aptitude for it and it makes you happy, by all means go for it. As you said life is too short to spend it doing something you don't care for. There is also a saying: If you're lucky enough to do what you love for a living, you'll never have to "work" a day in your life. I was...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

I loved him as Tuco, but here's film-noir Wallach in a classic steam-bath killing scene from The Lineup(1958). This scene cracks me up. First of all, silencers DON'T WORK on revolvers because sound comes from the cylinder gap, not just the end of the barrel. And secondly, fire and extremely hot...

Show us your Tiki/Polynesian Pop collections: rooms, bars, mugs, etc.

All nice items so far. I too can't wait to see more. I've had most of my tiki collection boxed up since I moved from my last studio. I'll try to pull them all out and share them soon. By the way, I really dig the Elvis tiki, DH.

    What's for Dinner?

Was gonna just finish off the mac & cheese casserole, but the in-laws called and invited us to come help ourselves to my father-in-law's massive pot of andouille and shrimp jambalaya. How could we say no?

    Hawaiian Shirts - Aloha Shirts

I dunno. A fellow would have to be pretty cocky to wear that shirt.

    Film Noir?

I was browsing old posts in this thread and came across this post. Being a filmmaker myself involved in a very similar project, I'd love to find out more about this web series, but there is no recent activity listed from this member, and the link seems to only bring up a blank page. If anyone...

Here's a few of my photographs where I was playing around with HDR filters. Lots of fun.

    Unappreciated masterpieces?

I've been looking for that one. I can't find it online anywhere for download or streaming, and had rather not buy it until I've seen it, or at least seen the quality of the print.

What are your favorite Vintage Restaurants?

I've been going to both Elliston Place and Trowbridge's since I was a very little kid, and neither has changed much at all in the time I can remember. I was a bit disappointed the last time I was in Trowbridges that they no longer have their servers wear vintage-style waitress uniforms. I guess...

What are your favorite Vintage Restaurants?

Please share the name, location, year established, and brief description of your favorite vintage eateries that are still in operation. My top three would have to be: 1. Omni Hut, Smyrna, Tennessee. An original tiki bar/restaurant that's been under the same ownership since it opened it's...

Show us your Tiki/Polynesian Pop collections: rooms, bars, mugs, etc.

From it's beginnings in the 1930s to it's popularity boom following WWII, to it's revival in the late 1990s, this fictionalized Island culture kitsch will not go away. I know there have been tiki related threads on the Lounge before, but lets use this as a place to share our collections of...

    Hawaiian shirts and fedoras

One of us needs to start a "Tiki/Polynesian Pop" thread on here.

    What's for Dinner?

Tonight we have barbecue pork (leftovers from Big Bob Gibson's) sandwiches with Bunyan's hot mustard slaw (it's a local thang), baked potato salad with bleu cheese, shredded cheddar and bacon bits. Around about midnight we'll start some slow-cooker baked cheddar mac and cheese. Should be ready...
