Have you slept in new leather jackets to break in?

Many moons ago a friend of mine who went to a university where leather jackets were popular among the engineering students said that some would put them down on the road and let cars drive over them to get them banged up. Possibly an apocryphal tale, but some students are stupid enough to do it, haha

What’s the correct way?
Here is what I did and why I did it.
These jackets I bought were older jackets some of them from the 1950’s. So I couldn’t stand wearing them because I knew how dirty they must have been so I took the chance on the first jacket. It was a Sears Hercules jacket that I paid $200 for. I hand washed it in a large container with dish soap. I let it soak for a while and then of course rinsed it very well. It was during the summer time so I put it outside to hang dry. The next day, I conditioned it with Huberds shoe grease and hung it outside in the sun for a few hours. This thing looked brand new, even all the white scratches were gone…This is what started me on my craving and I would say addicted behavior for buying leather jackets.
I’ve had many Sears jackets from the 70’s including many of schott jackets of that era. I fell in love with vanson and I know I had every jacket they’ve ever made and I damn near washed and sold all of them. I realized after washing them all in the washing machine on gente cycle would be perfectly fine. Just make sure you properly condition them and only do this during the summer months because these jackets take time to dry. Also, if the lining is beat up, I would hand wash them for sure.
