    Vintage neon signs

This is an interesting old neon sign a facebook friend of mine posted the other day. She lives in Oregon so I think that's probably where she found it . . . I believe there may be a hidden message in there somewhere.

    What's for Dinner?

Last night's dinner at Crunk Manor was Fried okra, fried green tomatoes, freshly sliced red tomato, and corn bread. All the vegetables were fresh picked from my in-laws garden yesterday afternoon. Even the corn meal was home-ground by my father-in-law. I sure am lucky to have married into such a...

the changes in foods since your childhood? doesnt taste the same as it use to?

From the time we got married in 2000 until we relocated out to the country in 2010, my wife and I dined out for probably 95% of our meals. Usually it was fast food for lunch then dinner at a fine restaurant. By a conservative estimate we were spending $50 to $75 on average, per day dining out...

Schott goes after the Restoration Hardware crowd

Just saw this thread. I'm wondering why anyone would think $650 is a good deal for a leather jacket. Call me cheap but I would never pay half that for a jacket unless it was something custom made to my specs, and even then it'd have to be something really really special. Now a custom tailored...

the changes in foods since your childhood? doesnt taste the same as it use to?

That makes perfect sense, because now that I think about it, whenever I do experience that nostalgic burning fizz today, it's always from a Coke that's ice cold.

the changes in foods since your childhood? doesnt taste the same as it use to?

I will still every now and then get one that hits me like that, and when I do it's usually from one in a glass bottle. Don't know what it is about glass that preserves that fizz better than plastic or cans, but it does seem to make a difference. I've also recently started buying Coke imported...

Have you flown in a vintage aeroplane?

I learned to fly in a restored 1938 Cub owned by a friend of mine. He owned and flew it for about three years himself, keeping to uncontrolled country airstrips, before he got his private ticket. At the time he taught me to fly, he didn't have a license, and neither did/do I.

the changes in foods since your childhood? doesnt taste the same as it use to?

Tom's Hot Fires are a snack that I've eaten since I was a kid and they just don't taste the same now. Don't know if they've changed or maybe my tastes have changed, but something is different for sure. One thing I know is that they don't put near the amount of flavoring on them as the used to...

    Spooky Stuff...

I'm kind'a disappointed that this thread isn't for sharing spooky stuff that happened to us directly, or that we've heard about first hand. That would be a good thread.

    Seersucker

Wow, I didn't know it was possible to fix the armholes of an existing suit. Wouldn't they have to add fabric for that? If so, where do they take it from? Someone care to enlighten me on this? I have several suits that I'd love to fix the armholes on. Oversized armholes are one of my biggest...

    Seersucker

Don't feel bad. Sooner or later it happens to all of us here. Usually sooner. Ahhh, thrift store pickings in L.A. must be fantastic. An advantage of your location for sure. I too love seersucker. I don't yet have one but it's on my short list. My grandfather, who greatly influenced my...

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

I can't imagine why any man would want a woman to have a thigh gap. To me that seems a sure sign that the woman is way too skinny. I mean unhealthily skinny. As I've always said, I like a woman to be build just like a mountain road: Soft shoulders and dangerous curves.

    Autumnal Thoughts........

Yeah, I too read about Zombie working on that show. I've always kind of liked Rob Zombie and his music, even going back to his White Zombie days, but I especially like his filmmaking. Didn't care much for his remakes, but I love his original films, House of 1000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects.. I...

    Autumnal Thoughts........

I read a little bit about the production of Pee Wee's Playhouse. They said that the whole first season was filmed in an uninsulated and very poorly air-conditioned NYC warehouse in the middle of summer, where it would often reach 110 degrees under the studio lights. So hot that the makeup would...

    Diamonds in the Golden Era

Well, when I proposed to my wife on Valentines Day of 2000, I did it with a ring that I'd got from a pawnbroker friend of mine for the "buddy price" of a grand. A few years later, after we had a house, a couple of nice vehicles and our business was really doing well, I "upgraded" her...
