I live in E. Texas, basically the deep south. It's hot and humid in my part of the state. Last summer we had roughly 3 months straight of over 100 degee days, many over 110, and I lied about the humidity that summer, no rain so everything dried up...
I am thinking most stiffeners are shellac based, in which case the solvent required to remove them would be alcohol. I doubt if naptha would eliminate creases as it is dry cleaner, not wet in the sense of wetting with water or steam.
You bring back memories. I can remember some of that WWII 45ACP ammo that must have had steel cases. The were not brass and not nickle plated but were a dull silver color, and did not seem to have a lacquer or varnish coating.
I have "built" several AR type rifles, got fascinated with them...
I can remember those days, just out of college for six months and not enough cash. Then the draft got after me so I joined the Air Force. Basic training, two months wait then three months OCS, then another couple of months in a tech school for a job I was medically unqualified for and they...
Never used any in my firearms. I have doubts as to it's springiness or shrinking back down after pressure drops as easily as brass does. Secondly, most of it has a "varnish" coat to prevent rusting, that could cause harder extraction.
I got my first Swedish Mauser back in late 89 or early 90. A co worker had gotten a ffl and was wanting to order/sell something so I had him order it for me. $69 at the time. Now a really ragged one starts around 275 and they go up from there depending on year and condition.
I also...
I have a couple of old Dobbs Tyrol style hats about 30 years old that I bought new. On one I noticed some moth tracks so I put them in a big plastic bag with some moth balls. Now when I put my felts away for the hot season, I place some moth balls in the hat boxes as a preventative measure...
Naphta is a fairly light petroleum distillate, highly refined to the point it is almost odorless. You might check and see what dry cleaners use, that is usually a form of naphta
I have no idea what liquid fuel is used in stoves there. I spent a couple of years in Turkey, 40 years ago and...
Nice. I like that rib. I have not seen one on a Hi Power before. Sights also look good.
I have an early 80's Hi Power that has been modified quite a bit. It has a Bar-Sto match barrel, Millett adjustable sight, Cyliinder and Slide innards, a cnc machined sear, small Rowell hammer, wide...
Unless you are very lucky you will will not find anything in the $100 range. You might look at Allans Armory , classicarms.us, or empire arms.
Classic arms has some Swiss straight pull rifles on there sit at sub 300 prices, which for what you are getting is a good deal. They are among the...
That "safari" looks like a hoot! I wish someone in our part of the state had something like that set up.
I just notice that the photobucket pic I posted the other day has been "moved or deleted", any ideas what's going on. That old rifle is not that risque!
Oldsarge, the handling is why I will never part with it, and hope my son keeps it. It's rare to find a bolt action than handles so nice.
When I got it it had a tiny hairline crack in the toe. I made some blocks to fit conform to the area lined with a strip of leather, then some wax paper. I...
Yes I have read that about the 9.3x57. I think it was considered ideal for moose up there.
My Husqvarna Mod 46 circa 1929,has never been drilled and tapped for optics and shall remain that way. The single blade rear sight is windage adjustable only. Even with the long barrel, it's probably...
It looks good on you. That's one of my favorite hats. After getting it, I got a standard in Bluegrass Green which I like also. A couple of years ago I had Art make me a custom in his blue-gray color and gave him specifications to copy the hat worn by Jeff Bridges in the movie Seabiscuit...
I read all that about the 9.3x62, especially when I was researhing reloading data for the "potato thrower".
I have never seen one, but suspect it would be a it more pleasant to shoot than the .375H&H in a similar sized gun. I would also think it would be a little slicker through a Mauser...
It's rather unlikely that I shall every hunt dangerous game. I like to play with large guns, note I did not say big, because at some point they come rather expensive. I have a couple of .375 H&H's and one .458 Win Mag.
My next step down is a 9.3x57, not nearly as potent as the 9.3x63, but...
