Thanks for the info! Does shoulder size help date vintage jackets at all? Because the jacket itself fits me perfectly, but I noticed the shoulders are about an inch wider than the rest of my vintage jackets. Do the bigger shoulders possibly emphasize the "Bold Look"?
Just picked up this sport jacket. It lacks a union tag, but my guess from the half liner, lack of vent, lapel shape and big shoulders is that it's from the late '40s-early '50s period.
The reason it's is a tell is because the liner which covers the sides and the top half of the jacket is post-mid 1950's thing. From all my research on fedora lounge and from looking around vintage stores, I have never seen this type of liner on jackets before the late 1950's. Normally pre-late...
It definitly looks like a 1960's does 1930's sportcoat. The biggest hint alone for me is that half liner, plus the 2 buttons on each cuff, which existed in the '30s but very common in the '60s. With the raritiy of origional 1930's belted back jackets, finding ones from the '60s is still a great...
The Union Tag alone dates this jacket no earlier than 1962, the R in the circle is the hint for that. Another big '60s thing I noticed are the 2 buttons on each cuff. This did exist on suits/jackets before the '60s but I noticed it was most common in the '60s-early '70s. Still a very nice sporty...
There are a few hints to dating suits. Does it have a union tag? Is it half lined? Is it vented? These can be very helpful in determining a suit or sport jacket's age.
I know exactly what you mean. Even in later years, I look at how people dressed in the '50s-'70s and comparing those decades to now makes one teary eyed. I understand how the styles change over the years, but how did fashion sense just get up and leave? I look at photo's of 5th avenue up in...
I'll be 21 soon, and I've liked the Golden Era since the day I was born. Even at a young age in the early 1990's I prefered my dress shoes over sneakers, a flat cap over a ball cap and a sport coat over a wind breaker. Middle School was an era where I pushed my preferences aside in an attempt to...
Just picked this one up today. Apears to be deadstock. Looked up the patent number and it was filed in 1936, re-issued in 1938. Judging by the length, color and material of the tie, late '30s early '40s seems like the era it's from.
From what I have learned, the other things I look for besides Union tags is the type of lining. I noticed that the half back liner started apearing on late '50s suits and jackets, while fully lined became a common practice later. There were fully lined suits in earlier years, but in general most...
This is info is very helpful. I had earlier made a thread regarding my Harris Tweed jacket which some knowlegeable loungers were able to guess to have been made in the '40s. I've never seen this particular label of anywhere other than 1940's era Life magizine ads.
Picked this sportcoat up recently. Has the 1949 union tag and the style looks 1949-1955ish. An added plus for me is that the label says it was origionally sold in Brooklyn, my hometown.
