Horween Chromexel Steer not dyed all the way through

It's purely subjective. I love the idea that the black will wear off to expose a brown underlayer, because I happen to think that black leather wearing down to black or grey looks bad. Can't explain or justify it, so I won't...

Couple of questions about leather jacket features

I probably shouldn't dive into this paddling pool of goodness but... If you look at old catalogues - Lost Worlds has a Buco one online, or used to - the jackets with loops seem to be sold with belts. I would guess that jackets intended to be bought by police departments came without belts...

Quality vs Price...is there a compromise?

I have to agree with Andy on this one. Leather jackets are ultimately about the leather, not the jacket. I've come to this conclusion after decades spent pawing through vintage clothing. Quality leather acquires its own personality and takes on some of its owner's. That could partly be because...

British bike jacket – can you help me date it? Clix zip, Newey studs...

Was that the Countryman? Multi-coloured knits at the sides, not all the way around? I tried one on the other day. I agree that the sheep leather is a bit soft but it's true to period. They can make them in cowhide, though... The jacket looked particularly 'right' somehow, though it isn't the...

British bike jacket – can you help me date it? Clix zip, Newey studs...

Aha, yes, I see what you mean. I reckon Edward is right: a LL sub-brand along the lines of Highwayman/John Pollock/Kett/Mascot... I think I remember reading about a fairly lively East London leather jacket industry in the late 60s/early 70s which produced quite a few of those brands. When I say...

That's also by far the best patch pocket/handwarmer configuration I've seen. I really like the A2-style pockets.

Help with choosing a leather jacket

David Himel's blog - http://vintageleatherjackets.blogspot.co.uk/ - is a very interesting resource. Also blogs such as Rivet Head. Best of all, Rin Tanaka's various books - the two 'Motorcycle Jackets' volumes and some of the 'My Freedamn' editions (which I don't have but do lust after)...

which one is better, aero or alexander

Hi edqc, FQHH is heavy stuff. It also takes a while to break in and you'll feel like you are wearing armour for days/weeks/months depending on how often you wear the jacket. I had an Aero FQHH half-belt which I wore for years and it never quite lost that feeling (which I liked, but still...)...

    Thoughts on the Schott 662?

Personally I think it's a bit average, since you want opinions. But it might be great in real life. I found an LVC jacket I'd been coveting just the other day which looked amazing in pictures, but in the flesh it was disappointing. Try it on. If you live in NYC you should be able to find one...

Help with choosing a leather jacket

Isn't Ariel Star contemplating some sort of cafe racer? They put up a picture of a Beck (iirc) on their thread a while back. It might be worth looking into, especially as you're in NYC. Schott are fine - it's just a question of how much you value exclusivity and the sort of quality you get with...

    A2 Maker/Contract With Biggest Collar?
