Symmetrical could well be the word. I would not want a hat that does not possess even amounts of material on each side. It would be rather comical to have one side larger than the other.
Panama Bob, that is a new name, but I will gladly check it out. Thank you.
I do like some of the things I have seen on the Atwood website. I may be contacting them this week and posing a few questions I have to them. The major one being an inquiry about their X ratings system and what the designation means to their hats.
I am still doing my work to find the...
I have a 20X Shantung by Stetson (style name: Shiloh) it nice but I had not done my research prior to purchasing. After I did some searching I found shantung is a paper base and I just felt misled. Since then I have been learning more about the type of straw hats and I am interested in finding a...
It was a great show. Both Eric and Dwight put on a good show. No it is not too far from your ranch. We could almost be neighbors, I am not far from Cherokee.
I will definitely look at their website, thank you. I am looking for an Ecuadorean straw. I have looked at Monte Cristi's website but I also wanted to see what else may be an option.
Sorry for the delay in responding, I was at work. I have a shantung hat by Stetson and it is okay, but I am not fan of hats being sold as straw when they are truthfully a paper base. I am not opposed to a nice palm leaf but I am interested more in Panama straw (yes, the ones from Ecuador). I...
I wanted to ask who fellow members felt was the best custom maker for straw hats that are of a western/ cowboy style. I have seen a few western/styles with shorter brims, I am however not a fan of the short brim. I prefer a 4 inch or a 4.25 inch brim and since I am not having much luck finding...
I attended a concert last evening, Eric Church. This concert took place a good distance from where I live; so I stopped off on my way home at gas station along the way. I was wearing a Resistol 6X City Limits western hat, black in color, along with a duster and boots. As I entered the station's...
Joao: I have not seen a thoroughbred hat until your posting. I do like that presentation and the look of the hat. Would you care to share more about how you came to possess such a hat?
Tony: I feel the gentleman at the tack shop is fair. I am upfront with him; I tell him I will be doing my homework before purchasing anything. The fellow is understanding; along with this, he encourages me (and others) to come back and share what I (we) found.
Major Moore: I am all ears for...
I followed up on the Larry Mahan collection with the local western, english, and tack store. The gentleman who handles renovating, cleaning, and blocking hats said that the Mahan hats, that he has seen, all have wool bodies with fur affixed to them. He did say he had not seen any of the high x...
Straw Season? Fur Season? Does it matter?
I work with some people who are very adamant that straw and fur hats have seasons in which they are worn. I have never heard of this, but I do not know everything in the world. With that said, I wanted to gain some insight from fellow hat enthusiast...
My personal preference would be for the Balmoral (hemp weave). I would want to limit my exposure to polypropylene, I prefer a naturally occurring substance to that of a molecule designed in a laboratory (polypropylene). Outside of this, I have no found much information that supports one over the...
The last movie I saw was the most recent Hunger Games movie, Mockingjay. I did not select this movie, at times one must sacrifice to appease the other half. I would not recommend this movie. I have not read the books and I can easily predict what is going to happen in these movies. Save your...
