I use Chamberlain's leather milk no. 3 for my leather products. But the colour of the leather would darken with use. I think most leather dressings would inevitably darken the leather, save for black of course. If you are worried, try on an inconspicuous portion of your coat first.

I think one factor affecting the acceptability of the length is the kind of bottoms one wears. Jeans would be of a low cut and pants would be of a higher cut. Where the jacket ends may therefore be dependent on the type of bottoms worn.
