Anyone with any experience with R Lauren's "Purple Label"?

Good to know. If anyone's interested, I'll be putting a kidney up on ebay in the next couple of days...

Anyone with any experience with R Lauren's "Purple Label"?

If Purple Label is anything like RRL, it's really lovely, solid gear.

Where can I try on a whole bunch of leather jackets in London?

Don't miss Lewis Leathers in Whitfield Street, round the back of Goodge Street tube station. Lots and lots of things to try on and very friendly staff. Otherwise, yes, American Classics. All sorts of interesting clobber as well as a decent selection of Eastman and again, great people to chat...

    Doc Martens v Solovair

I looked into buying a pair of the UK-made Docs but the price... To me it's the same sort of deal as buying an LVC 'donkey jacket.' I got my first pair in 1976 when I was a 12-year-old part-time punk - oxblood, yellow stitching. The air pockets tended to get punctured but there was a way to...

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame - John Lennon Hamburg Jacket

I thought all those Hamburg jackets had knit waists - when you see the boys in their matching 'levvers' they seem to be black pilot-style things. Or maybe that was a bit later? So yes, hurry with the pics!

Aero M-422a and AN6552 Mouton Collar Color

Now I come to think of it, you're right, thor - and John Chapman, of course: my grandfather was a furrier and there were always a lot of mouton pieces around in his house: they were dark, almost black, but had that rich chestnut tinge and a lot of contrast when you brushed the nap.

    Pegasus Leather Safari Jacket

I think I'd like it better without the epaulets and the breast pockets, though it is still very, very nice. Manages to avoid that deadly '70s vibe, which is the curse of most safari jackets.

OOPS! I might have ruined new Bad Wolf Jacket!

Heat can make leather contract, so you'll have a thicker, smooth area with creases all around it where it has gathered in. If you don't have that going on, and it doesn't look as if you do, I agree with what others have said: it'll all even out with wear. Go out in the rain a few times. Don't...

Aero M-422a and AN6552 Mouton Collar Color

It's my understanding that moutons, when issued, were dark brown: that rusty gold comes from tropical sunlight, salt spray and avgas.

    BK price increases again?

From the description, sounds like Aero or Alexander. Let's just hope it isn't Primark!

Were you planning on buying a BK jacket, then, HD?

    BK price increases again?

Christ, not the belt thing again... Having come into this ten pages along the line, I fail to see what all the fuss is about. BK's Westfall, at £700, is still £124 cheaper than ELMC's equivalent Californian jacket. Their USN jackets are £100 cheaper. And all of these are half the price of the...

    Aero Pioneer

I'm with you on that. In this case I'd like to replace a particular (now retired) long-ish jacket in my wardrobe, and it's tricky, because that sort of length - 29" 30" - can look very naff-70s if not done exactly right.

    Aero Pioneer

I thought it looked familiar! Good memories of that manor, especially the Tabard.

    Aero Pioneer

SimonC, as you've given this pattern a lot of thought, do you think it could stand up to having a few more inches added to the length or would it mess things up? Fits you perfectly, btw, but I'd really like a jacket in the 28-30" range for length and the style you've got there is much more...

    Famous People in Flight Jackets

Horrific jacket, lovely motor. I used to have a sky-blue '72 200TD... Liesl the Diesel. Oh, how I loved that car!
