I was a (very young) mod revivalist in 79/80. Not an easy or safe thing to be in South Devon, which was greebo central in those days! On the plus side I got to wear my old man's authentic 60s clobber (he was and remains a dandy). On the minus side there was a fair amount of aggro...
Mod, for...
Damn - sorry, Baron!
I agree. The market is awash with this design at the moment but the BK stands out just enough. And might look good with one of those Canadian mandarins... Still, no excuse for a thread hijack, though!
What's the consensus of opinion about having one of these made with a mandarin collar, in imitation of this jacket posted by Dinerman on the Cafe Racer Ancestors thread?
I think the ELMC Windward is pretty nice.
But the Detroit is great, and so is the AL Oakland (which I like better, personally - alas, I've been forbidden any new lancer-type jackets on the grounds that I've reached mutton-dressed-as-lamb territory...).

Here's a question for Dinerman and the other historians: Aero are calling their Board Racer a classic 1930s design, but when did the 'cafe racer' design first appear? By which I mean the mandarin collar, central zipper form we're all familiar with. I've seen the Lewis Leathers International...
It's funny, but I don't find the BK posts condescending at all. I find them supremely patient, considering the remorseless hostility they attract from certain quarters here.
BK are trying to build a successful, high-end, artisan business in the middle of a truly ruinous Greek economy. I think...
It's a shame Norshor Leathers aren't making the leather M-1940 jacket a couple of lucky forum members own - that would have been a better platform for your dad's tribute jacket IMVHO (army-appropriate and just a better-looking jacket) - but I'm sure he'll love - and be very moved - by whatever...
Beautiful jacket. They do 'em nice down here on south Dartmoor! The colour looks amazing. The D1 is the most wearable shearling in our climate, I reckon.
