Might sound odd, but I've used Saddle Butter and found it worked pretty darn well. The beeswax in it does a great job protecting the surface and the other ingredients work well too.
It has a combination of neatsfoot oil and carnauba wax as well.
I focused on the hatband and JBS hat "pin" and from my recollection having sold a few Stetson working retail, I'm putting closer to '95 than '83. That hatband style got real popular about 20 years ago. Hope this helps!
I think any type of a clear, somewhat flexible, adhesive should work. I recall that Locktite makes a vinyl fabric product that might just work. On some projects, my wife has used E6000.
