i asked the seller if the coat had any date inside. quote:
"no written date inside, however I've been in the costume/film industry a number of years and can assure you this is an original 1920s coat. Cheers"
so there you have it; it's 20s. the man said it is.
thanks gents.
Rudie, i'm often thinking: will i ever have stuff for sale ? and i'd like to one day, especially as i'm currently sick of my present job and would love to get into something else as i get older. as for the present moment, if someone offered me £1.5K to make them a suit i'd...
thanks Shangas. usually the last thing i've made is my favourite... not because it's better than earlier stuff, but because it probably has the features i'm most currently interested in.
heres some shots of the most recent suit. it doesn't have the extreme narrow shoulder like this last one:

... but still a neat (moderate width) shoulder. the trousers...
oops, i meant Adjustable Costume, not Reversible Costume... flat-top knew what i meant anyway. ;)
as far as i'm aware they're not yet buyable on the interweb.
it's the photos too TT. i like good clear photos, on a mannequin not a person in front of their house, who the garment doesn't fit.
vintage clothing can easily look like junk if not displayed well. the seller Kompendium does it very well.
they also have another jacket which i think is 20s but they call 40s.
you know how everyone has an ebay seller who they find really annoying ? this one is mine.
good finds Fastuni. that first one with the wide and very long lapels looks more 40s to me (because of the low button placement that makes the lapels look so long)... but you know more about German suits than me so maybe you've seen early 30s ones that are similar ?
he's the German Baron Kurtz.
thing is, it's only the niche brands like Old Town, Mr. Freedom, Reversible Costume etc who will get the details right because they're the ones who care about that stuff. the BB '20s' line is weak because no one there is really that bothered about the 20s, so it's just a half hearted pass. next...
i agree. i guarantee that if the clothes we desire were plentiful and easily available, most of us obsessive types would lose interest and move onto something else that required the detective work.
also, i'm an elitist snob... the last thing i want is to see 20s-30s-40s clothes available in Top Man. i like the fact that it's a niche, cultish interest and we have to work a bit harder to find modern equivalents, or make our own, start our own labels etc.
