Curious as to what about the OP's Eastman he thought was rough? Does he mean it was a Roughwear or that the quality was rough? Maybe it was a knockoff or is he confused as to the nature of this type of jacket? To some, I guess, the style of manufacture my appear to be 'rough'? What with the...
Mine almost made it's first appearance today, it was 8C. Then it started pissing down so a more waterproof coat made the trip instead. Which I was bummed about. Shouldn't be too long now though? I'll wear mine anytime it's cold and mostly dry. I get complimented on it often.
I have a GW A-1 that is a one off and is made from a 'washed' capeskin that JC did as a test. As mentioned above it isn't going to be as tough as horse/steer but is still a fairly thick leather. It is much more soft and drapes nicely. In my opinion the A-1 just looks wrong made in a stiff...
Johnson Leathers did my A-2 for just under $100. It was tricky because the original zip tape was caught under a collar snap but the job they did is completely invisible. Their pricing varies depending on the difficulty. I was happy to pay that because it's my favourite jacket and it now has a...

I honestly think that the wave in expensive repro jackets has peaked? It is becoming harder for everyone to sell these days. Of course there are some exceptions still but in general it has slowed greatly. Time was JC would post 3-4 jackets on the sale page. They'd be gone by the end of the day...
The disposable fashion cycle has caught on to the vintage/heritage/military trend and is working it's way through all the 'iconic' pieces. From the white wedge sole on boots, all the way up to some of the really top designers making sheepskin jackets with loose nods to flight gear.
At the moment...
My Shackleton in russet Vincenza taken yesterday after it cleaned the gutters, brushed the yard and chopped a pile of logs with me. It is lovely leather.
If I had disposable cash, I would be sorely tempted to buy one and see what I got?? Then complain to Ebay when it wasn't the same quality as the photo.
Offered for sale is the early OD version of this desirable and hard to get outside Japan flight jacket. Size 42 but as anyone that knows this kind of jacket and the way it's cut, it can accommodate a range of people, both bigger and smaller. Depending on desired fit? It was purchased direct from...
