Thanks. Not the first time a GW has been responsible for a proposition. Haha! I have been very lucky as I have said before and have never had to wait for mine. eBay, forums and John's sales page have been good to me. That doesn't mean though that I don't think they are worth the wait. At some...
Here's my GW J-100. I believe this was the first one actually copied from the original. Not Shinki but Horween. It is a fantastic pattern. Great range of movement for such a close fitting jacket.
Oh dear, did I ruffle some feathers? I was also given the Shinki information first hand. I don't want to draw JC into a fight he never picked so I won't labor the point anymore. My last word is this, I'll personally take a craftsmen' article over a mass produced one (relatively) any day but vive...
I've written this before in other threads but here goes again. Shinki is finished in many different ways. The finish is specified by the customer. RMC use Shinki and they spec that it is roller finished to be very smooth. Whereas John at GW specs it to be virtually unfinished. Thus it has much...
Ok, so here is the photo I mentioned earlier in the thread. Black rider with service issue chinos. Taken from the Japanese Lightning mook on vintage leather jackets. Sorry for the wait.
Personally I think this is a great period type look. One I will probably copy when my vintage rider...
Pretty sure those are A-2's. I don't see action backs or mouton collars. I do see single piece backs and epaulets. The Doolittle crews were Army flyers and wore A-2's.
There is a photograph in the Lightning 'Vintage Leather Jackets' magazine that shows a group of male and female early bikers. In it one of the men is wearing what I'm sure is a black rider jacket with some (probably) ex-service issue chinos. I've always thought it was a great look. I'll try and...
I find my GW G-1 to be warmer on average than my much thicker leathered GW A-2. I think it's because of the closer fit of the G-1 pattern. Retains that warm air layer better than the more blousey A-2. Also the mouton collar does trap heat in quite well.
No issues with the button holes on my A-1. If it fits correctly I don't see why there would be. The button holes on the fly of a pair of jeans goes through more stress and movement than a jacket front does. Especially these days with the tendency towards slimmer fitting jeans with lower rises.
I'm not sure if I've posted a photo of this A-1 in here before? Forgive me if I have. As the thread came back around I thought it was a good excuse to throw one recent one up.
It's just the light. Exact same color in reality. If anything slightly darker because it picked up a very light touch of indigo from some raw denim jeans on the only other occasion I've worn it out.
Not quite real Irvin weather but I've been waiting 6 months now so I took advantage of the dip in temperature. Sorry it's a bit blurry, not the best light and Mum isn't the steadiest hand.
Thanks for all the compliments folks. JC really is damn good at making leather jackets. As noted by Butte in another thread, it's fantastic for us that he's branching out into doing more civilian styles.
Once I am settled and employed again I am going to get a brown version of this done. I'm...
Ok folks, finally I have some pictures of this wonderful jacket to share. It truly has become a 2nd skin since getting it from JC. It's been many years since I decided to do away with black in my wardrobe. After many years of wearing virtually nothing but. However I got the itch to own a black...
Good Wear's Shinki isn't exactly the same as RMCJ's. John has is speced differently, especially on the finish. He asks for no rollering so his is much less glass like. Way more grain and not as stiff.
I was in RMC London yesterday and saw all the leather jackets in person. They are very well...
An ANJ-4 might be the next big jacket purchase for me. I like the slightly less 'teddy bear' look as a change from the Irvin. Having said that though, I sure am glad that now I'm back in the UK (and actually looking forward to a real winter) I have an Irvin ready and waiting to go. It's now...
Sorry for the lack of fit pictures and a proper review. Especially with all the J-100 talk on here lately but I am moving my life 6000 miles back to my homeland (England) after 25 years in San Francisco. This has meant other priorities but once I get rested and settled I will update this thread...
Well, I'm sorry to say this jacket won't be getting returned and being put up on the sale page. I'm keeping it. After many years of only wearing black I had stopped about 10 years ago now. Got rid of every stitch I had. However, the hankering for a black leather jacket had reappeared recently so...
