I don't have a B-3 but do have an Irvin that is getting it's fair share of wear out on the moors. When I can afford it an ANJ-4 will see daily duty too. If you feel comfortable in it and don't care, others won't either. Honestly who gives a damn anyway?
I did my own re-dye on a very early light russet GW. It was a fun project. I didn't go quite as messy as a QM Depot job though.
As for the Eastman jacket, why not? It will be quality and it generates great interest.
Fit photos really would help this thread. What I am wondering is if in fact your jacket is actually too short not to narrow. Meaning that the waistband sits at the widest part of your middle. Normally it would tuck in underneath this spot. At or just below the belt line rather than at true waist...
From what I understand Eastman are the only company that has an original to copy. JC has, I believe handled it but not been able to copy it. His A-1 is based on a SAT A-2 pattern, I think. So on that basis it's a good bet that Eastman's is going to be very good indeed.
As far as I know, it's the only one in that exact leather. John was trying a washing technique where he put the hide through the washing machine (and maybe even a slight tumble dry?) Then he made the jacket from it after. The result is kind of a reverse wearing in. The grain actually goes smooth...
