    Helicopter Parenting Raises Dependent Children

Once my father slacked off on my and my older brother, he began to realise that as much as you push your kids...if they're no good at something, or if their heart really isn't into it...nothing will come of it. My dad pushed my brother to play the piano for six years. As a grown man, my...

It's not "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" is it? That was horrible.

Modern Products with Vintage Style Packaging

TEN PAGES and I'm amazed nobody has mentioned this one yet. A couple of days ago, I discovered that a number of my personal possessions made of various types of metal had tarnished over the months and years that I'd owned them. Deciding that this was incredibly unsightly, I hopped down to...

    Helicopter Parenting Raises Dependent Children

I don't believe that helicopter parenting happens in Asian families. Or rather, not to the extent that one might believe. I refuse to be offended by Vic's sentiment here. I can see where it comes from, and I can understand why it would appear so. Asian parents have a stereotype of being...

Today, I bought a beautiful, classic green glass banker's lamp for $38, identical to this one: Always wanted one 'cause I thought they looked cool. I also bought three nifty little collar-bars at the flea-market! I've been after these suckers for months, and I FINALLY got some! And for an...

    Helicopter Parenting Raises Dependent Children

http://www.theage.com.au/national/a-hovering-parent-arrests-growth-study-20130119-2d0p4.html According to this rather interesting article, instances of "helicopter parenting" have been on the rise to such an extent that we're in danger of raising a generation of children who have become so...

Was there ever such a thing as "TV Insurance"?

Hey folks. I'm currently writing something in my blog, about the history of television. And I wanted to confirm or deny a rumor/myth that I've heard many times in such things as documentaries and period TV shows. The myth (or whatever it is) goes that in the early days of television...

    What's for Dinner?

Mr. Paul is busy fishing. Where does Mrs. Paul get the fish to crumb, huh?? Tonight's dinner was fried chicken with salad. With chocolates for dessert.

I love drinking hot chocolate. It's my favourite hot beverage. But I have nothing which I can really put it in. Today, that changed. I was at the local thrift-shop, where I found a beautiful white ceramic chocolate-pot for $3!! It needs a bit of a clean, but is otherwise undamaged in any way...

    Kitchen knives

It's easy. You slot the knives into the top, and then you turn the handle. Turning the crank rotates the grindstones inside the machine and they spin and grind against the edges of your knives, sharpening them up.

Rue, you know, you probably should clean up your grinder and use it! It'd be great for sharpening up your kitchen knives.

    What are you listening to?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVNcLUE87HQ It's such a pity Julie Andrews can't sing like she used to. She had the voice of an angel.

    Kitchen knives

Sharpening a razor is very different from sharpening a kitchen-knife. While the angle is more or less the same, the difference is that with a razor, you have the razor-spine there to guide your hand and dictate the proper angle. You don't have that with a kitchen-knife. That's what makes...

    Kitchen knives

On the rare occasions that I get blades sharpened, I have it done at a knife-shop. When I finally tracked down my gran's tailoring shears after a LONG search, they were really blunt and quite useless. A couple of phone-calls around town, and for $5.00, I had them professionally resharpened.
