I like Emily Post's emphasis on practicality: two suits, some skirts, some blouses, sensible shoes, basic underwear and some coats. Throughout the book, she emphasizes living within your means and honoring your debts.
Ebay or a vintage clothing store or site. You're more likely to find something if you're petite. Otherwise, you'll probably have to DIY with a pattern. There's a lot of info on the Lounge about both buying and making--you'll need to do some searches.
From Etiquette by Emily Post, 1940:
The Well-Dressed Girl at College
The girl who would like to know what clothes to take to college and how to be well dressed on a reasonable sum of money should first of all pay particular attention to practicality.
As a tentative list from which you...
True. But I'm not worried about being burglarized. (Of course it's possible--the previous owners were hit twice, but I think they were careless.) My house and belongings (mid-90s estate sale furniture, mostly) are insured. I can't think of any reason a burglar would case my house in particular...
How does this thread about outgoing voice messages keep turning violent? :eusa_doh:
I stick to my position that there's nothing more that a caller can do than annoy me. And if I take the phone off the hook, or use caller ID, he can't even do that. Oh, I suppose he could stay on the line and...

"Uh....well....ummm." It isn't a life-changing decision. :eusa_doh:
Not to be contentious, but if somebody dials your number by mistake, meaning to reach someone else, they might not know they've reached a wrong number. If the caller is trying to reach someone in an emergency (say, a school nurse calling a parent), it would be nice for them to have some sign...
The blue belt doesn't match the autumn color scheme.

What would she do with a sandwich? She can't reach her face. The coat/poncho should come with a matching hat that has a place for a nutrition drink and a bendy straw.
I think that a cape is the ideal thing for a lady with an entourage who will open her car door, drive her car, carry her bags, carry her babies, and do everything but feed her like a baby bird.
There's another movie about a white suit. Someone invents a white, indestructible, non-dyable, never-needs-cleaning fabric and makes a white suit out of it. Entire guilds get up in arms because that fabric will mean the end of their livelihood.
