Is it really the legendary Pickfair?

"The current Pickfair has a modern feel, and it should: When owned by actress Pia Zadora and her husband, Meshulam Riklis, the original structure was largely demolished and a new, larger mansion constructed in its place."

If I remember correctly, didn't they knock down everything except one wall (to get round planning permission) and completely rebuild?

6' or so of adjoining walls (a corner) was all that were kept. That's the standard knock-down rule in L.A. county to keep it assessed as a "remodel" and not new construction. Most of the time, they wait a year or two to "remodel" again and tear down those original walls. And no, it's a completely new pool as well. Most of the property was sold off by Zadora's ex-husband who she's now shacked up with after dumping her boytoy. Like the slide show says - for $60 million, you get 2.7 acres. No more stables, no more lakes, etc.

So while it's called Pickfair, it's definitely not THE famous Pickfair. It's another hosue build on the site of the famed home.

Goodness. I don't understand the point of demo-ing a beautiful authentically historic building to put up a building in a revival style.
It's like covering up the Mona Lisa with a modern artists version. :(

Actually, wasn't the original estate (when Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks owned it) about 10 or 15 acres (maybe even more than that)? 2.7 acres isn't all that big for an estate. Here in northwest Alabama, lots for even very modest houses (costing 60 to 100 thousand) are at least an acre or more. I have 850 acres, so that's lots more than 2.7, but it isn't valued for near as much as Beverly Hills acreage.
