Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

BEE-AY-YUTIFUL hat, rlk. Isn't it a little large for you? If it'd been 22" I might have been compelled to take a stab. Congrats on that one!

    Hat Suggestion

This made it occur to me that if you were to resurrect an old thread, that would be a Goose Bump, now wouldn't it?

    Perfection Portable Steamer

I've got one like that too. Bought it expressly for steaming hats. But DANG, the thing will rip your hide off if you're not careful. Not feeling that I could really control its steamy power I went back to the tea kettle (and most often, just water) to shape hats while keeping the gizmo handy if...

    A minor Grumbel RE: Campdraft

I don't know nuthin' 'bout Akubras but I do have several vintage silver belly hats and the colors fluctuate all over the board. Some are beige/tan, some are quite greenish, some have a more pinkish hue when compared next to the greenish ones, some are very pale grey. Some are just darker and...

    Post New Hats Here!

Congrats, HP! You've got a right to be proud of that one. Grosgrain relaxes when wetted. I would think a cooperative hatter would use that technique to bring a little more length into that ribbon after the reblock. G'liuck!

Nice hat - but I must wonder; what ELSE are you growing in that garden of yours?... ;)

    Panama Hat Thread

Below is what I and another wrote in that thread. I use Lexol on my hats' sweatbands and unless the leather is petrified, it works safely.

Personal Plea to Panamadub re: Montecristi Hats

Talk away but be careful with the rolling. Although I've been quick to show off some of my Panamas (and a Parabuntal) in a state of rolliness, I must point out that it really isn't something one should do to a straw hat once it has been transformed from a raw hood into a blocked and trimmed hat...

You and Douglas are killin' me with the Westwards. Very nice!!

    The Dobbs Diner...

Ah, but this one was easy. It's a wraparound puggaree style ribbon with little barbs at each end which hook the hat. The good thing, though, about this one is that it is vintage and made of really nice material in a very pale off-white/cream color. New ribbons of this general type can be...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

I'll second that! And although the ribbon treatment on that hat is getting all the love, the felt doesn't exactly look like junk either does it!? :)

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

"Thanks all...I'm doing alright...hair is starting to come out finally...chemo is getting on my nerves...have an early day tomorrow...but it's always a good reason to sport a fedora!" Well, you seem to be buckin' up to it all pretty well. You might not feel it all the time but for what it's...

That really IS a fantastic color on that Optimo, Lexy.

    Post New Hats Here!

I was actually the one who returned that...I felt that the "only light wear" description was pretty inaccurate (though perhaps that betrays my ignorance in hats)...plus it was pretty stiff, which I don't prefer. For $30, maybe you'll like it. Hmmmmm..... Interesting. I've been wanting a 7X...

    The Dobbs Diner...

I'll bet it is. Looks like a very similar product to the one I have. I'm guessing 60s for these, based on style of hat and ribbons.
