Golden era door to door solicitors

I don't buy from door-to-door solicitors and am suspicious of uninvited people but I do respect the sales profession and am not angry when I decline to do business. Without selling, nothing else would matter in business. It's the oldest profession. Some people think something else is the...

    Stolen: My PB Diamante

Sorry to hear about that loss - and I know your pain. Back in the eighties I worked at a $300 million world-wide company - 2,500 employees at this one facility - very corporate. I had a grey fedora stolen out of my office. Couldn't believe it. Couldn't imagine which one of the clean-cut...

Has Has anyone seen a Kevin McAndrew STRAW?

I don't know anything about McAndrew's hats (although I own one felt OR clone) but I have seen lots and lots of brands attached to Cuenca Panama hats over the years. It's pretty obvious that importing these relatively inexpensive and quick-to-make straws was commonplace for nearly all the...

Wow, kao' - you look spectacular in that suit/hat. Total class without being costume-y. Some can do that and some can't. You can.

    Attack of the Giant Boater

Yes, 'Sailor Straws' was what my father (b. 1914) and his father called them, and they were owners of them back when they were still in style. Might have been a Detroit thing but I carry on the tradition of calling them that rather than skimmers or boaters.

Yes. "Rounds" would also be accurate terminology. -------------- What is it about people leaving .22s around when they bug out of a place!? My neighbor is landlord of many properties and he knows I've got a secure weapons safe and ammo containers so he's always bringing me handfuls of...

    Panama Hat Thread

Beautiful, beautiful Panama, Aureliano. And being that it came down to you from your father makes it a much more special treasure, in my opinion, than any of the hats I have bought, no matter the quality.
