i've never seen anything quite like this jacket, with the specifically cycling label. could even be 20s. shame that the back doesn't have any pleats in it.
looks like they've had it fastened at the top button and it's developed a bit of a kink.
yes, Ralph's patch pocket belt backs can be pretty authentic. personally i think he should either do the 30s well or not do the 30s at all. but don't make some sort of lame compromise.
i'd rather see good...
trouble is, the jacket has a high gorge which makes it look modern. the trousers are slim (and probably low waist) which makes them look modern. there's so little 30s left in the final result i don't think it's even worth calling it 30's inspired.
new stuff from RRL's tailoring division. this is 'early 20th century inspired'. not sure which bit exactly, but could pass as 20s conservative:
these are '30s inspired':
hmm, narrow trousers with a 30s jacket ? unlikely to win much support here:
they're 40mm, though the lens isn't perfectly round. it's actually 40mm wide and 38mm high.
(the luxury, no holds barred version of this style is C W Dixey's 'Chartwell 01' at a slightly more eye-watering £380)
the trousers look late teens to early 20s to me, going by the waist lining, ankle width and fastenings.
however, it's possible they're later but made to an earlier style for an older gent.
p.s. the jacket looks in pretty good condition compared to these: ;)

it's interesting though, just how many repairs the jacket's owner decided that the jacket deserved.
i would have stopped wearing the jacket after just one major hole on the front, if it was a 'smart' jacket. but if it's a gardening jacket or work jacket where do you stop ?
