The limits of dry cleaning (or how a cat might have ruined a favourite shirt).

Try Tea-Tree wipes. I've had success with them, and not just on greasy stains. Worth a shot, and they are low risk!

    Original Owners of Vintage Clothes

My Grandad has a collection of old Viyella shirts definitely from the 1970s/1980s, from when some members of my family used to work at the factory in Somercotes - he still wears them in Winter! Also, for my wedding, he wore a tie and tie-clip that MUST have been from the 1950s/1960s. He doesn't...

    Morning Dress for Church?

I'm not a Church goer, although I have been to a few services over the years, and got married in a 12th Century Anglican Church last year. I initially wanted to wear full morning wear, but in the end opted for a stroller suit, and I'm glad I did. I think it was right for the situation, without...

Are you telling me those are worth more than that now?! Even without symmetrical patterns and subdued colours? :p

    What are you wearing today??

Thank you! I always think it's best to try and look 'every-day' even in what would typically be 'smart' wear. I prefer caps over felt hats on most occasions. But come what may, I can handle the heat ;) With regards the suit, yes I did go in with some photos and some illustrations I did. It's an...

    What are you wearing today??

Thank you HBK. No it isn't vintage - it's from Toast, the designer clothes firm. Occasionally they do runs of really nice stuff inspired by period designs - this is one of them. I picked it up in a sale. There were trousers to match, but I avoided them because of their typically low waist. I...

Hair gel to stiffen the brim!? I've never heard of that before.

    What are you wearing today??

Thanks gents! Esteban68 - I'm not one for the aristocrats but they have done a good job refurbishing the outside of the house, and down by the river there is lovely in the right weather! Just a shame about the prices to go in (and the fact they've managed to call it a 'charity'!). TT - Can do...

Hello all, On my way with my wife to Chatsworth House! Really sunny so sorry about the brightness on the photo - I've tried to edit it down. It's a suit I had made for me by a MTM firm that my outfitter uses (in Yorkshire I think - not a sweatshop place anyway). It's based on a 1930s style...

Very nice Luftwaffles and Retro Spectator! And congrats on the job Luftwaffles! A couple here: This one from Wednesday when I took a trip to the archive - a bit of a mismatch with colours, but I felt summery so wanted to be a bit colourful! And here is from Thursday. It was the 8th...

Tootal - The Company History and its products (ties, scarves etc)

Interesting. I've seen them for the modern wedding cravats but never for normal ones. It doesn't take an awful lot to just tie a knot! But as you say Esteban68, keeps it in place and it does look nice and symmetrical.

There's a uniform website selling them (can't remember the name but just Google them) but then they're only the modern ones still in use. Joshua Barrett found out about one he had so perhaps he has a source.
