I'm all about the high thread count paja toquilla straw from Ecuador. The more I learn and experience the art, the handmade wonder that goes into these hats, the more I yearn for a paja toquilla that looks more like linen than straw. But there's something to be said for an inexpensive, open...
I don't understand his business practices I guess. I just saw a straw hat he has on ebay, a grade 1-2 Cuenca at best, for $300. I wonder if there are people that actually pay his prices???
I met some folks in Cuenca that sell hats to Stetson. I'm pretty sure I saw a hat body that had that exact design in it, but didn't take a picture. Here's two that were on the table right next to it, though.
Nice hat, BTW! Is that a new one or did I just miss your previous posts on this...
That's exactly how MrsFed felt... too many boxes cluttering up the bedrooms...
It's a little wobbly, but was the least expensive on ebay at about $80 shipped to my door.
I love this one, David. I actually printed out a color copy of it for my trip to Ecuador to show weavers examples of what I like. It's one of my absolute favorites from the entire FL website. If for some insane reason you ever decide to sell it, then send me a message!
I had a ca. 1974 Dobbs with a sweatband made of manmade material that deteriorated and would leave black greasy marks all over my forehead. I had a fairly local hatter, Mike Miller of NW Hat Co, replace the sweat for me with a nice leather example. Good as new.
@moontheloon , I remember those...
MrsFed got tired of all the boxes and actually suggested a retail store display rack... so I did it! This one is designed to hold 35 hats, but there are about 44 hats on there now...
