The dishwasher in a classic kitchen

I guess the greenest thing to do would be to let the dog wash the dishes.

    Combination Skin Nightmare!

Jayem, I take GNC hair, skin and nails vitamins every day. http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3181120. My skin breaks out if I don't take it for awhile. I also avoid eating a lot of wheat; I limit my self to about two servings a day. With a diet change, it may take a month or so...

    Sort of the ANTI-Fedora Lounge . . .

Maybe it'll get some people to put on pants before they leave the house.

    Oldest person you ever knew?

The earliest born person I ever knew was my grandfather, born 1894. But he was in such poor health that he wasn't, I am told, the person he had been. My parents and a few friends are nearly the age my grandfather was when I knew him. They're in much better health--in fact, one is an avid...

The dishwasher in a classic kitchen

I have an older dishwasher...made around 2005. I needed to do some repairs on it, looked it up on the internet, and that's what people call a 2005 dishwasher: an older model. [huh]

    Suitable Short Hair-Do for a 12yo Girl...

I used to know someone whose mother gave the "as long as you're living in my house" speech. At 16, he got fed up with it and moved out of her house.

    The Lost Art of Manliness

    Ah--now I see.

    The Lost Art of Manliness

I wasn't sure how the subject came up then, either. Maybe it's a reference to a joke I haven't heard. [huh]

    The Lost Art of Manliness

Quite a few. Much depends on what an individual can and can't do, and what they're suited for. A womanizer, for example, would probably be better off as a bachelor.

    Suggestions for hair color

Sonia, you remind me of my sister. Even in her mid-50s when she died, I don't think she had a gray hair. It was thick, beautiful chestnut brown. If you really don't like your hair color, though, going a few shades lighter would be OK. I don't think red would look good with your cool skin...

    Looking to move

Thanks for posting your photo. :) Really, I'm sure it's fine to discuss moving to a mid-century house in Colorado here in the thread.

    The Lost Art of Manliness

My objection isn't to the fact that men and women are different. It's to the idea that women are all about alike, in that except for a few oddballs, we all just want to get married, have babies, and have some feminine interests, and the desire to do something outside of those things, like having...

    Suitable Short Hair-Do for a 12yo Girl...

Yes--a few inches longer than this. Note that the model has an oval face. Again, a haircut that ends at the jaw is going to make the face look wider--not good on a girl with a round face.

    Suitable Short Hair-Do for a 12yo Girl...

Layered, shoulder-length hair will still allow her to wear a pony tail or a big clip to get her hair off the back of her neck and keep her cooler. There will be less hair to get tangled, too. As a start, long layers might be best--she can always get them cut shorter if she wants to.

    The Lost Art of Manliness

If we exclude qualifiers for manliness that can't be applied to women, what we're left with is father and Navy Seal (more or less). I like most of the manly qualities that people have named: honor, dignity, self-control, physical strength, leadership, etc. It might be helpful to think of them...

    Suitable Short Hair-Do for a 12yo Girl...

I have a round face, too, and short hair doesn't look good on me. I recommend a haircut not shorter than shoulder length. Any line or fullness at the jaw is going to make her face look wider. She could get her hair layered. That would give her more style options and less propensity for...

    The Lost Art of Manliness

Those who know about such things say that the most dangerous animal is a female defending her young. My brother used to be an SP (policeman) in the Air Force. Our mom doesn't think he could have shot anyone. But our sister--she was in the Hell's Angels. Every rotten thing you've ever heard...

    The Lost Art of Manliness

I was just reading a few weeks ago how the definition of high status (which might be thought of as manly) has changed over the centuries. A thousand years ago, people revered mystics. Then knights were all the rage for a number of centuries. In the 19th century, you had to be sophisticated, and...

    The Lost Art of Manliness

I assume you mean that if men aren't macho, our military will go to pot. However, we have a volunteer military, and men who aren't suited for military life don't have to join. Not every masculine man is suited for it. And not every military job requires brute strength. IME, what was mostly...
