    Well, I think I arrived at my own answer. They are not shell leather. They had such little wear when I got them that creases had not developed - but I wore them Saturday and below shows the result. Still, fairly well-made (they have a better look, feel and 'depth' than corrected grain would)...

    Thanks, Bill! :) That Bostonian logo design has a decidedly '70s feel about it. There was still some high quality merchandise being made in that era and I'll modify my guess to early- to mid-seventies but no later than that.

Then, I coaxed the shape into it (more curl up on sides, more drop at rear) while using a hair dryer...

    Bill, I'd GUESS '60s. That style has been made, without much deviation, for around ninety years or so, but the tan sock and the apparent quality of construction make me think these are about fifty years old. It's also sometimes helpful to show the logo imprints inside the shoe and sole/heel...
