I've got three 7 1/2 hat blocks, none of them are the same circumference or dimensions front to back. They are roughly 8 1/4 front to back and 6 3/4 side to side and about 23 1/2 around.
Charlie, I think Jonah wins best hat of the weekend! Well hatted one and all
Stetson Sovereign Twenty again
I've been thinking of giving a few more of my hats that 20's-30's style side dents. Kind of a cattleman crease for fedoras. It worked so well on one of my Mallory's, I thought I'd...
Chamberlain's is good for any leather. I use it on a lot of my shoes and boots as well.
I haven't found anything that brings back a cracking dry rotted sweatband, though.
Lexol wipes have been recommended to me as well, I just haven't tried them yet or I might recommend them as well.
Moon, you're going to get as many answers as there are hat collectors.
When I get a vintage hat the first thing I do is use Chamberlain's no. 2 Straight cleaner on the sweatband. Then I'll apply Chamberlain's no.1 Leather Care Liniment. Wipe it on, any that doesn't soak in I'll wipe off with a...
Moon, that Penman is a bit of all right as well. It's sad that he has to do that disclaimer at the end about someone sitting behind the hat holder on the car seat head rest.
Very nice, Moon! the leaf in the logo probably means it's more likely 50's than 40's. Doesn't matter it is a sweet hat! Unique color and great box too!
Thanks Harv and Moon. These darker colored hats have fallen out of the rotation for the summer. Probably won't wear them again til September or October.
My guess is late 40's to early 50's on these. One has the stars in the crest, one has the leaf. If I understand correctly this changed in the early 50's. Others could date them more accurately than I.
They're both Stetson Twenty's as well.
I've got two;
This Stetson Sovereign Twenty doesn't say Sovereign on the liner
This one does;
Can't say about how old for sure Late 40's or maybe early 50's
I'll be honest as I am a little sceptical of this one but it did come with the hat and it is a cool box.
I'm thinking they weren't still putting Whippets in those fancy Whippet boxes by the 50's so maybe it is the real deal. The hat does fit into it perfectly
The straws are coming out in full force!
I'm still not ready to give up the felt
Knox Twenty
Running out for lunch and another trip to Lowes....or is it Home Depot? Packing for our move has got me frazzled!
Sorry if it seemed I was coming down on you or JJ or Bencraft, Moon. The inflection of the voice in my head doesn't always come across in the typed word. I like JJ and Bencraft too. I've bought a hat from each of them in the last 6 months. It's a great experience to go to a real hat shop and try...
Moon, I'm sure they've got their reasons for not stocking every model by every maker and all the sizes they'd have to stock. It's not easy keeping a business going in NYC. I get it. But, if Delmonico's is willing to special order a hat for a customer and Hatco will supply it than that's an edge...
