    Liking it better

I'm glad to hear that you got it, Tom! About the fit: their jackets do feel a bit tight and stiff (understatement) for the first 3 weeks or so but once they break-in and soften up a bit, the tightness relaxes. If you were to return it for a larger size, the length may end up being too long...

My late 1930's Double Breasted Suit.

Sharp! Great-looking suit, Metropd! May I ask is it a worsted or flannel? Just curious. Noel

A-1 Jacket / A1 Flying Jacket - The ultimate Golden Era flying accessory!

Great Eastman A-1 pictures! Thanks for posting those pictures, Rumblefish and Estevan. It's nice to see the contrast between when the jacket is/was new against when it's seen some service. Capeskin sure looks pretty! Noel

    Liking it better

Ha ha! You are the first one to understand the meaning of my username. :) I also agree that U.S. Authentic's jackets are very well put together. By the way, how is the U.S. Authentic goatskin? Is it pretty thick like their horsehide? Cheers, Noel

    Liking it better

Two thumbs up! grunt56 - I like the look of the seal brown. I've got the russet brown version of that jacket. I've had it for a year and have to agree that it is a very rugged jacket. I've worn it in all types of weather; done yard work in it; and worked on motorcycles and cars in it. The...

    Favorite cigar & hat combination...

I have to say that I usually wear my Borsalino 8-panel cap while enjoying a cigar outdoors - usually an Ashton Heritage Puro Sol. Those are nice cigars. I can't decide whether I like the VSG or the Heritage better, though. Montecristo is wonderful too; oh hell, I could go on forever... Noel

    Ideas on softening my A-2?

I see that you are in Idaho - try shovelling snow while wearing it. The motion of your arms and shoulders help to soften up even the toughest horsehide. It works even better if it's still snowing while shovelling; the melted snow will penetrate the leather. It worked great for me this winter...

**NEWS EXTRA**Good Wear flying jackets take vintage authenticity to new heights!!

Geez! John is making so many wonderful jackets he is making it difficult to choose which one to get. I had my heart set on getting the Good Wear Aero 16160, then I see the A-1, and now the Werber; he is killing me! On the other hand, maybe that's his marketing strategy: "...can't decide...

Hope I Didn't Get Ripped Off

I don't think that you got ripped off. The jacket looks very smart on you. The fit is right on, too. Enjoy! Noel

Need a little advice on reviving an A2

If you get the leather soaked through and apply some low heat to dry it (like a low-heat cycle in a clothes dryer), it will shrink a bit.

A-1 Jacket / A1 Flying Jacket - The ultimate Golden Era flying accessory!

I like the fit of Eastman's (#2) but since they don't do customization, I'd have to go with Good Wear's (#5) and substitute buttons for the bottom snaps. That would be my ideal A-1. Noel

Hi to the good guys and a few questions

If you are looking for some thick horsehide, U.S. Authentic (flightjacket.com) can get you there. I've got their russet horsehide A-2 and it is THICK stuff. I took it to work and used a vernier caliper to measure the thickness and in some places it was nearly 5 ounces! It softens up nicely...

    Show us your suits

Beautiful pattern! I've got a gray single-breasted suit with that type of muted plaid. It's one of my favorites. It looks good on you. Enjoy, Noel

Highwayman arrived - urgent opinion needed

It looks to me like the jacket has a great fit in the shoulders but the body is just cut with too much room in it. Perhaps you could return it for a slightly different style of jacket with a better body fit or do you have your heart set on the Highwayman? Regards, Noel

    Do you own a Tux?

I had my formal wear custom-made (along with some business suits) many years ago while in Hong Kong. I decided to have a single-breasted, shawl collar, unvented jacket made. I've worn it frequently over the years to formal weddings and operas although I don't wear it much anymore - I don't get...

    My Glenn Ford jacket

It sounds like you did some fairly serious alterations on the jacket; I'm not sure I would trust myself! I'd like to see how yours turned out - the stock jacket looks very nice. Noel

    "The Grizzly"

That's one tough-looking jacket - very unique for sure. I'm not certain that I could put it off though. It looks fantastic on MudInYerEye but I think that it wouldn't look right on me somehow (in other words, I'm not cool enough :) ). MudInYerEye: do you have photos of your other "grizzly"...
