I have 8 fur felts, Akubra and Stetson. Two inexpensive straw fedoras, Silver Creek and PFG. I also kept one of my early wool fedora conversions, it’s Ivory and it’s lightweight.
I wear all of my hats so that is very satisfying. I don’t own any vintage hats because I have a “big ole head” , 7...

Brent what color is this hat? It kind of looks like a Silverbelly in some pictures but a light grey in another. I’m sure it’s the lighting. If you decide to part with it keep us big headed fellas in mind. :)

I’ve had fairly good results reshaping and re-creasing my wool fedoras with steam. I encountered two challenges; they became very soft requiring a stiffing agent (I used spray starch), each hat smelled like a “wet dog” while damp.
To avoid any shrinking issues, I folded paper towels and...
I have both, Sydney and Stylemaster. The are close to the same hat. Sydney comes open crown and has a raw edge. Stylemaster has a bound edge and has a pre-creased crown.

I’ve ordered three Akubra’s this year since the “pandemic” started. All have arrived in two weeks. I purchased from The Hattery: https://hatsdirect.com/
As stated earlier in this thread search hat types here or on the link I provided. I’m sure you’ll find something to meet your hat needs.

In reference to comparing the Fed IV to the Stylemaster, I can’t pick one over the other. Both types have their place in my rotation. I wear a lot of polo shirts when I’m not working. The Stylemaster in my opinion is a little more casual, so I reach for the Stylemaster more often. The Fed IV can...
I made a short video this morning. When new, I steamed the crown and brim on my Fed IV and it has held up well to date. I hope my video provides some insight into your question about the stiffness.

Try this link it has a front view of the Stetson Nobel: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/side-by-side-hat-comparisons.65983/page-46

I watched the romantic comedy, Blithe Spirit from 1945. The movie stars Rex Harrison, Kay Hammond, and Constance Cummings. It’s a great movie filmed in technicolor.
After novelist Charles Condomine invites a self-proclaimed medium to his home for a séance, with the hope of gathering material...
I would think the felt stiffness would be about the same for the most part. All of my Akubra’s are in the 2-1/2” brim range, regardless of model the felts seem the same to me. The factor that I would lend to a less stiff brim is its width. The wider the brim, I would tend to believe the more...
