Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Sadly, we don't have anything like that locally, but yesterday I learned of a theater that opened in 1931 in Ashland, KY, that has ongoing programs. It's now the Paramount Arts Center. They show classic movies, but also plays, musicals, and other productions. According to a flyer we recently...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Almost as bad, but true: years ago a friend of mine sent me a scan of an ad from the classifieds of The Stars and Stripes (U.S. military newspaper for those stationed overseas). I'm probably paraphrasing, but it read something like "For sale: a motorcycle, large-screen TV, and recliner. Must be...

So, ummm.... is the Fedora Lounge Store still planned to make a comeback?[huh] I found the post that Unlucky Berman made about finding some of the items available at makeupmag.com and followed the link. Sure enough, there were a few items available (pint glasses, matchbooks, coffee mug) but the...

    Missing Loungers Whom You Miss.

It's been mentioned in the Fedorafest III Stratoliner thread, but it's worth reviving this thread for this: Jimmy the Lid. He's not posted since May, and as often happens (as I mentioned earlier in this thread) his absence came suddenly after a normal series of posts. I hope he's doing well...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

:arated: May have been what held the price down. I hope that the seller turns out to be right about his own hat size and it's large enough for you! Cheers, Tom

    Homburg Nation

Hi, Bowlerman, It's a Stetson 3X Beaver Quality Mode Edge. Fortunately, that's what I named the photo as I haven't a clue at the moment as to where it is. It's gotta be in one of these hat boxes somewhere... [huh] Cheers, Tom

I was going to say that I think you're both right and that there's the "Sovereign" level of quality designation, and that "The Sovereign" is the model of that particular homburg. But a quick use of Google proved that there are fedora-styled hats with the same "The Sovereign" sweatband imprint...

How did America let this man become an icon of the working class?

That's kind of how I feel about the Masters in Information Technology I'm finishing up next month. The concentration is Project Management. I've come to regard it as something like when I went to truck driving school to get a commercial driver's license. At the end of it I had my CDL which said...

Taxi!!! A Yellow Cab uniform cap, not mine though I considered it. The larger version of the photos wouldn't come up so I couldn't snag a link to one, but this will do. Cheers, Tom

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Pardon me while I go :offtopic: for a moment, but you just reminded me of a time I was in England for a BMW motorcycle rally. We were getting ready to head out on a ride, and I was just about to put on my helmet when I heard the sound of a large prop-driven aircraft. I looked up, expecting to...

That P-38 looks like it's been on that hat for quite a while. Without knowing any of the history of the hat or the owner it makes a fellow wonder if the gent who pinned it on flew P-38s in the war. Cheers, Tom

    Lidsville:)

Dang, and with Charles Nelson Reilly to top it off! I missed this one when it came around. Is it just me, or does part of the falling into the hat sequence remind anyone of "The Time Tunnel"? Cheers, Tom

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I've found that I generally leave the hat creased as it comes to me, unless it really needs to be changed for some reason. That provides me with a bit of variety. Like HE, the exception is the cattleman's crease. I don't always remove it, though. On some hats it works for me, on others it does...

    This hat is in denial!

I've got one of those Dobbs Twenty GP look-alikes as well. The sweatband has the Dobbs Twenty imprint (with the coach), with the name of the store that sold it on the other side. At the front it reads: Headspring Pat. 2682175 Other Pats. Pend. Unfortunately, the sweatband is in poor shape...

    Stetson Stuff

Exactly! It it is something I really want, and I know I'd be willing to bid at least the opening bid or more, I may set a sniper at the max I'd be willing to go. Somehow, though, that high opening bid is discouraging even when I know I'd bid twice as much if the opener was lower.

    Stetson Stuff

That's something that I've seen happen a lot. A seller will want to get at least what they think something is worth so they'll set the miminum bid at that amount, but no one will bid on it because everyone wants to have at least the illusion there's a chance they'll get a great deal. Still, I...
