Did'ja ever know someone in school who everyone knew was gay, (not that there's anything wrong... :hand:...yadda-yadda :blabla:) except her/him?

I present my new Dobb's "In the closet" Prince! :drum:

It is just as soft and lovely as my other Dobb's GP & identical in every way.

However the ONLY thing on the sweat is "Dobb's Twenty"- nothing else!

It's really the bee's knees! I am so looking fwd. to felt season, though in was 96 today.

I hope this is taken in the spirit of fun & not in any way as ugly or hateful - not meant that way, no malice either intended nor implied. :yo:

I'm not very PC but I just don't see the humor in your application of gender preference in this post. I've perused it a dozen times looking for the funny but have failed to find it. [huh] Nice lid though.....

Understood.

I would propose that it is primarily the juxtaposition between the meaning of words & how they change over time, in this case, from that of "carefree" to the current "homosexual". That is the cheap shot. (Did'ja notice the little rimshot :drum: guy -did'ja? -"take my wife...please")

More significantly or perhaps ironically, in the 21st Century, the point of tension (and thereby humor) is created between having one antique hat with the moniker of the “Gay Prince” & and seemingly identical hat, from the selfsame manufacture, period and in the identical style … not, is a source of at least potential humor & levity. But I do not disagree with you; I likely presented it in a clumsy & maladroit fashion. Humble apologies are requested. Again- there was no pejorative connotation in my intent - i.e.- what folks to with their junk is none of my business and of no import to me whatsoever.

Incidentally the first recorded use or “Gay” to refer to gender orientation was Cary Grant in Howard Hawks immortal screwball comedy “Bringing up Baby”.

Well, all "that" aside, I have a Gay Prince that I LOVE, but it's in pretty shabby condition and needs the full Optimo treatment. Some old geezer must have smoked a lifetime of Chesterfields underneath it.

Broken record here. I always chime in that those are not my style. I ordered such a hat from Disney by accident, not seeing a close-up. When I got it, it was so soft, and had all that cross stitching, that it didn't add up to my kind of hat at all. That was before I knew what they were called. However, what they're called isn't really a problem because the only people that could ever know their name is we hat geeks. I guess I'll chime in again when the subject comes up. More power to those who like that style--if it works on you, then go for it. I do agree though that the name of the hat is unfortunate in current usage.

I've got one of those Dobbs Twenty GP look-alikes as well. The sweatband has the Dobbs Twenty imprint (with the coach), with the name of the store that sold it on the other side. At the front it reads:

Headspring
Pat. 2682175
Other Pats. Pend.

Unfortunately, the sweatband is in poor shape. The rest of the hat is in great condition.

Cheers,
Tom

P.S. A Google search on the patent number brought up a Lounge thread that had the name "Leisure Flex" connected to that patent number.
