    Dating for Fedora Loungers?

I tried e-harmony some time ago and didn't like it. My experience in a nutshell: You set your preferences, and then they ignore them. You say you want someone between 35 and 45 in your metro area and they hook you up with a father of three little kids in Manitoba, a bunch of 50-year-olds...

    Long haired 1930s 1920 looks?

Mary Pickford didn't cut her hair. She wrote an essay on the subject, which you can read here: http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/5117/

Historical clothing that Hollywood has trouble with

Some period movies and TV shows from the 50s and 60s were just dreadful for costumes. I'm thinking of Dr. Zhivago and The Untouchables: big bouffants and false eyelashes in revolutionary Russia and the Roaring 20s.

    Gardens vegetable, flower or other?

This happens to my tomatoes when the nights aren't cool enough: the blossoms break off on their own. When the nights get below about 60 degrees, the blooms stay on. I don't think it's a lack of minerals in my case--the ground is full of them here. Nevertheless, I've never tried some of the...

Experienced my first earthquake this morning...

Central California had a 6.5 shaker in 2003 that I missed by a day. I was there for the aftershocks, though.

Yes--my comment was meant as dry humor and not a dig at anyone. There are a few swing dancers here who could take hygiene a bit more seriously--but just a few.

Ladies, what scents do you like on your men?

You could spray different colognes on some cards and ask the opinion of the girl you want to ask out.

    Dating for Fedora Loungers?

Simple fact. Going from "I'm not going to get a tattoo" to "People who have tattoos are (insert adjective)" is a leap.

First Aid Proceedures & Kits Vintage Vs New

I know it's not what you're referring to, Shangas, but the arm pump thing reminded me of one of my professors. He told us students that he'd had an idea to use solid rocket fuel to get oil from old wells and a company had put a lot of money into this. He was so nervous one day about whether this...

First Aid Proceedures & Kits Vintage Vs New

The Heimlich Maneuver has saved my life, along with countless others. Dr. Heimlich deserves to have his name on his claim to fame. Besides, "stomach thrusts" sounds like a symptom, not a cure.

If I have a needle in me, I am probably giving blood.

    Dating for Fedora Loungers?

Quite a few people find mates at dances, but even in the lindy scene here, there doesn't seem to be a particular interest in vintage anything. Maybe this should be a negotiable item on one's wish list?

    Bug out bag ETO 1939

When I was in the Air Force, they (sorry, I don't remember who "they" were) were handing out Gospels or New Testaments that would fit in a shirt pocket. Nevertheless, I think there was more of a practice of memorizing passages of one's holy book back in the 30s and earlier than there is now.

Ladies, what scents do you like on your men?

I like Old Spice, but like others here, it reminds me of my father and a few other older men who wear it.

    Dating for Fedora Loungers?

My brother always told me you're better off single. He was married long enough to know. As for the topic, I have no idea where to meet other vintage lovers in Denver except through the Lounge.

    Washing light-colored/adventurer clothes

I wash my whites, navies and blacks together and put bluing in the water. Most of the rest of my clothes go in another load together.

    Outdoor Preparedness Overkill

I'm thinking aspirin, a few small candies and an ace bandage. Cheap, easy ways to help someone having a heart attack, plunging blood sugar or a sprained ankle until they can get to a doctor.

    Outdoor Preparedness Overkill

Yes--words to live by. Rescuing someone who is stuck on a cliff can be dangerous. This is one reason I stick to wide, popular trails and only go out for a few hours in nice weather. I'm not opposed to roughing it, it's just not for me. Being treed by a moose with a calf (which happened to my...
