Josh, thank you! That's exactly the type of knowledge for which I'd hoped! I must say that is earlier than I had been expecting. I posted this new acquisition in the Portis thread a few days ago, but Redfokker suggested I also try here... I found this older Portis bowler/derby on the local kijiji in 7-5/8. It's rare to find any hats in 7-5/8, much less a vintage... Sadly, the liner is missing, but I am still happy to...- lbgradwell

None, unfortunately. I can see marks where the liner was once glued on the inside of the crown and possibly the remnants of glue on the inside of the sweat where a re-order tag once was, but there are no other markings of any kind that remain on the hat. I am a relative newbie, but I don't ever...- lbgradwell

That's quite a remarkable coincidence! It is not a long street by any means... I lived at Duvnäsgatan 16. The second green door on the right was the entrance and I lived in the apartment directly above with the white blind in the window and the window to its left...- lbgradwell

Thank you for your advice, Cindy. I do have handled hat brushes in both light and dark. So may I infer that it is not a terrible idea to gently, slowly and careful attempt to stretch this specimen? We're talking half a size at most.- lbgradwell

I'm a little concerned. I have a stretcher in place right now, but it isn't really doing much stretching. I wanted to poll the membership to see if I should VERY carefully try a slight stretch or return to my initial plan to trade it.
