That's excellent. I'll defer to the more experienced members, but I'd say you have a mid-1950s example. There are a series of ads from 1953 and 1954 for Champ Lightweights that match the logo on the box and mention both Kasmir and Metal Blue.- lbgradwell

Gus, you are correct that Tilleys have the two cords as you've described. And though it may seem awkward, they aren't; you can poke both up inside the crown if you wish (my normal choice) and you won't feel them up there. Thanks, fellows! The hat itself seems to be of passable quality (though it's stiff as a frozen haddock), but that hatband is not the tooled leather it appears to be. It's actually plastic!! That's pretty lame and I will have to remedy this in the fullness of time... The only other hat I own...- lbgradwell
