I cannot give an opinion on quality, but thought I'd post some old ads I've just come across...

Just before Christmas, I found myself home fighting a persistent cold for a couple of weeks. I spent quite some time during my convalescence perusing old collections of periodicals I found online. I was rewarded with quite a few old ads and articles relating to the Canadian hat-making industry.

A couple of more Brock ads from 1931...:

Sheez lbgradwell, what a collection of hat ads!! My finger’s tired from all the likes!
You’re not a Brock hat fan are you? Ha
I don’t know much about Brocks but now i’m interested. Love to see some pics of real ones.
Thanks for the work.
Be well. Bowen

Ivano is posting his hats for sale, and I am a little behind in putting up pics of the Brock hat I bought from him a while back. It is a Brock Select Quality, I believe likely a 20s (latest 30s)hat judging by the unsewn sweatband seam, quality of the stamp of the seal, and unreeded sweat; combined with the likely dates of the other hats in his collection.

I have included a few pics of my hand creases to give a general feel of the felt quality. It’s the only Canadian Hat I own, and I am very fond of it.

I came across someone named Ivano posting on another forum when doing research on Canadian hats. I would be interested in acquiring one, can you steer me in the right direction?

It is almost certainly the same Ivano, but you’re the buying competition! Ha. The more the merrier. Here is one of his listings in the classifieds. You can track his postings, etc.

Yeah silly me I did a search right after asking you and found it. But you are the one with the self conforming head aren't you? anything from 6 7/8 - 7 1/2?

My head stays firmly in place at a 7 3/8 unfortunately.

lbgradwell,
These are awesome ads. I found some clips in the local NS papers that date back in early 1900's. Your ads helped me immensely as I was having difficulty establishing that the "St. Lawrence" and "Horton" were also Wolthausen creations. Here is a question for you and you may have come across this... Almost all of my Brocks have their tags under the sweat. Interestingly many of them said Wolthausen Hat Corporation. Then I notice a number of them say WHC. My instincts say that the WHC are likely 20/30's and he full name older again. My reasoning is that like everything label costs increased so less ink likely meant less cost??? As company grew and aged they started looking for cost reductions...thoughts
