I've found that darker colors heat up quite a bit in the sun and a taller crown can help mitigate this to some extent. Humidity also seems to play a factor in how hot I may feel in a hat
Thank You, Roger. Usually the more extreme the condition the more satisfaction one feels in the rehab. I do spend more time on crowns than brims but many old hats need a little of both.
It helps to have a flange to iron against, to get the shape. Unless you're going for flat that is. I don't dampen the cloth like DOGMAN but it doesn't sound like a bad idea. I set the heat pretty high as well.
it's how I get from this;
to this;
I've had a hat blown off my head three times. Always able to retrieve them but it's been some close calls. The few times I've used the wind cord they didn't blow off to test their effectiveness. Always worried they'd rip right off, though.
+1 what Charlie said!
The Sovereign's are sweet hats and Yours Clint, is outstanding! A noticeable step up in quality (and that's saying something as vintage Stetson's lower"Royal" quality is unmatched in today's best hats).
Some great Mallory's popping up lately!
Clint-it's great to have a hat you don't have to fuss over and what a great quality one!
Se couvrir-Absolute Knock out! And what a great box to go with
40Cal-Just stunning! They really don't make them like that any more
Short answer; No. that hat is at least a 6 inch crown and it's a much lighter thinner felt than a Campdraft. Brim looks ballpark, though. That's not to say you couldn't come up with something similar that you might like.
You'd have better luck with an older cowboy hat. It might even come...
Yea, Fruno! You go to some place like JJ Hat center and see the steam their machine is kicking out, I knew my tea kettle just wasn't cutting it. As ever be very cautious with this stuff, folks. best to practice on a $50 or less hat first, not your prized Whippet!
