    The Tile House

Green Tile in Cincinnati, OH Here's one in Cincinnati you may like... green tile exterior. It's in the city in our gaslight district about two blocks from my house. One of my friends just sold it after over a year on the market for $306K. It needed new systems and interior work; but good...

French Schriner & Umer Gentlemans Shoes

You're correct. I've done some reading and they're really nice. As usual, auction folks don't always have it right. Thanks for correcting me. I still wish they were my size. $30 was prettry pricey back then - like Allen Edmonds, they were made to last.

Are you ever tired of explaining why you live or dress the way you do?

Don't you love the crooked cap with the stickers still on the top and bottom of the bill? Coupled with "saggers" - the pants around the thighs as if you were in jail and your belt was taken away - the look is beyond hysterical. Give me a good old red and green mohawk any day,

French Schriner & Umer Gentlemans Shoes

I came across these in an on-line auction (active till 2/5/13 @ ~ 8 PM ET) and am not familiar with French Schriner & Umer. Unfortunately, my dainty feet don't come anywhere near 9 1/2. But, the look really appeals to me - basically, I wish I owned a pair. Now I need to begin looking on Ebay...

How Many Fedoras did you see today?

Three seen in five minutes, plus me... I work in a large, conservative hospital in Cincinnati and in five minutes I spotted our CFO, Chief Counsel and one of my managers in fedoras. I'm a newbie and have been pretty tentative about wearing my hat. I have no reservations anymore. BTW, it was 9...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Well, I took a big step today and spent real money on a new Borsalino. I'm fortunate(?) to live in Cincinnati and took the afternoon off with a buddy and went down to Batsakes. We both left with new hats. Batsakes, Gus and his wife are exactly as I'd imagine. We couldn't get out of there to feed...

    Interesting photographs from my Uncle!

I loved Riverview Pk! A couple of evenings every summer we loaded my dad's car with my friends and headed up to the North side. Thanks for the post! These are great memories.

    The Powder Room's Etsy Directory

We're just getting started - hand (loom) woven items. The shop has a couple of examples (http://www.etsy.com/shop/shuttershuttles) and if you drop Allison a note with a specific color combination, she can handle a custom order.

    Picture Frames

Here are two of my frames. They both have the domed glass - I think it's called bubble glass. The frames are a plaster-like substance that has been painted. You frequently see similar oval frames with a wood grain-effect painted on. There are also some ornate tin frames or actual wood. These...

Where did your user name come from??

I would handle all the school programs involving insects - butterflies, dragons and damsels, and all misc. invertebrates while working as a naturalist with the Wisconsin state parks. The kids started calling me Bugguy - it stuck.

Bringing service back to Department Stores?

My 24 yo daughter just quit that "M" store. One horror story after another. They carved up their departments into small designer speciality shops, so she was working her favorite brand. The dressing room assignment was pure torture... in her words, the women were slobs. Men hang their clothes...

Sears might be going belly up

I have to go back to your picture of the Homan Ave. store... I had completely forgotten that. My parents would shop there all the time. I remember running across the parking lot in the dark and in the rain. The other big store was in Portage Park (Cicero and Irving Pk.) - at six-corners. It was...

Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows

Saw this with my daughter and son-in-law this week. Great fun! We'll worth paying real money to see (vs. renting). Big jump from Basil Rathbone to Robert Downey Jr., but if you suspend judgement for a while and get into the movie, keep it in its current context, its really entertaining. Noomi...

    Vintage Phones

I went through a phase several years ago and had about 12 really nice vintage phones. My favorites were the two wall phones - the Red Bar and the Juke Box a.k.a. Tombstone. The Northern Electric desk phone is classic deco style from the 40's-50's and is all that remains of the collection. It...

    Show us your vintage home!

No, it takes more talent than I possess. I had several feet of brick taken down and replaced the chimney pots. I got lucky and found a contractor who had 4 that he "found" at a job site. After the squirrel fell down onto the grate (they used ether to knock him out), I added screens to the tops.

    Show us your vintage home!

It's a great house with a step-down living room. Very bright and open. Funny, I thought Tudor's tended to be darker inside, but this one gets lots of light. The eyebrow window is my favorite detail. The color was originally green(??) (sickly) I chose the current colors, but have toned down...
