The Tile House as the locals call it, is a Moorish folly in Bay Shore, N.Y., built by Rafael Guastavino Jr., who with his father, Rafael Guastavino Sr., developed the tile vaulting system used in Grand Central Terminal’s Oyster Bar, the Whispering Gallery outside it, and other iconic spaces, like the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and Carnegie Hall. Guastavino built this house when he was working on Grand Central.

I think the tile houses give a great look. Tiles make the house unique from others. I tell the taste of choice. I also like the tiled house but the house I am living in is not tiled one. Planning to have a little change in the future.

No doubt the cost to tile the exterior is prohibitive to anyone who does not own a tile company.

I don't think tile would cost any more than brick. I would like to know how it stands up to the weather? Do they often have to replace tiles that have cracked or fallen off? How about pointing the joints?

Absolutely amazing! The terracotta color of the tile makes all the difference, it gives the house a Mediterranean style!
