That's good to know. I'll give it one more shot at looking for it, then its the hacksaw. Thanks!

    Vintage Tie Case?

Here's one I picked up many years ago. Unfortunately, I misplaced the picture of the inside. It has a metal loop with a coat hanger hook so it can be hung on a rod, door, etc.

    Your favorite movie quotes

"Don't get mad-get even" Attributed to Joseph Kennedy Sr. and later to Robert Kennedy, but Kennedy mystique aside, delivered best by Flounder... "We have an old saying in Delta House: Don't get mad,get even" (Animal House, 1978).

Thanks Renault. I think I lost the #$%@^ key to the trigger lock. When the big one hits, I'll be holding the barrel and beating them with the grip.

    What else do you collect?

Old paperback science fiction - when they cost 25-35 cents. I enjoy seeing how they reflect contemporary issues (then) and the then view of the future. I recently transferred several hundreds to my late-20'ish son-in-law. He's fascinated with how they've been woven into current movies. I held...

    Electric Fans.

Lady Baltimore - I've recently started chasing vintage fans - as noted in my post above. The price varies all over the map depending on condition and relative scarcity. The purist will tell you that the oscillating case needs to be cleaned out and re-packed and then on and on till you've spent a...

    Show us your Guns!

I just pulled my early-WWII vintage P-38 out of the vault. My father took it off an officer and they let him take it home. I still have the authorization paper. That was really a different time. I've fired this twice; before that it could have been just test fired.

I guess the founder was a tinkerer. They started out making toy trains in the 1890s and he kept playing and inventing. They are top-tier in maritime and security spotlights now. They have a small room in their office - kind of a museum and have many of their originals. Hopefully they'll add...

I just picked up a matched pair of these spotlights at the Nashville flea market for a very reasonable price. I was told they were off a fire truck... wrong. Turns out they were manufactured in Cincinnati in 1941 by Carlisle & Finch located about a mile from my home. Carlisle & Finch made the...

1970?? Where would you be going in 1970 that you needed a pith helmet? A boonie, maybe. SERE on the Texas range? No, that would be Fairchild. Interesting. I hadn't heard they were issued.

Giant Pith Helmet Thread of Doom

I just picked up a vintage pith helmet - aden pattern/cawnpore sola style - for a very reasonable price at a local auction. It's perfect on my 7 3/8 noggin and a hoot to wear. My only problem is that the chin strap has disintegrated over time and I'm wondering about replacing the...

Anyone else with a retro workspace?

I just came across this thread and it got me thinking. When Milwaukee (WI) County Hospital closed down, I was able to claim a lot of their vintage office furniture for my office suite. I had a marketing/PR-type designer in my group and we staged a coup and rounded up all the 50's metal desks -...

    Electric Fans.

I've been collecting fans for while, but mainly learning as much as I can about them. I have an old Westinghouse from 1910'ish that runs on DC. In researching it, I came across a picture of that model on display at the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago. I was all motivated to have it...

    EXchange names for phone numbers

BIshop 7-4788, my 3-party line in Chicago. The old mail code was 23. Funny how some things are imprinted from 60 years ago. ...and I can't remember what my wife told me to do this morning.

Are You Brave Enough to Share Your Prom Photos?

No prom pics… my date was a minister's daughter and I had to get her home by 10:00. The camera guy hadn't set up yet. I guess my reputation might have been a wee bit sketchy.

How'd You Get Where You Are?

One additional comment…. if it wasn't for all the early years I spent at the Chicago Boys Club, I'd probably have grown up to be a slug with no moral compass!
